Technical College Student Shot Nine Times by Street Racer Gang in Bangkok

A young automotive engineering student narrowly survived after being shot nine times by a gang of street racers in Bangkok’s Bang Khae district in the early hours of the morning of 8 March.

 

At 02:30, Police Lieutenant Wannachana Wasasiri, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Lak Song Police Station, received a report of a shooting involving a group of teenagers in front of Kasemrad Hospital Bang Khae, on Phetkasem Road. Police officers, led by Police Colonel Lertsak Khiemsap, Superintendent of Lak Song Police Station, and emergency responders from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, rushed to the scene.

 

Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Sukrit, 18, a first-year vocational student in automotive engineering at a well-known technical college in Nong Khang Phlu. He was lying on the road, barely conscious.

 

The victim had sustained nine gun wounds, with three shots hitting his back and six striking his right ribs. He was immediately transferred to Kasemrad Hospital Bang Khae, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

 

According to the victim’s friends, their group was riding two motorcycles with five people along Phetkasem Road when they noticed a group of street racers stopped at a red light at the Soi Sai 2 intersection. The victim’s group ignored them and continued riding. However, the rival gang allegedly made a U-turn and followed them, opening fire.

 

Mr. Sukrit, who was riding pillion, was struck and fell off the motorcycle, suffering severe injuries. The attackers then fled the scene towards The Mall Bang Khae.

 

At 10:30 Police Colonel Theerachai Detkard, Deputy Chief of Metropolitan Police Division 9, convened a meeting at Lak Song Police Station to expedite the investigation and track down the suspects.

 

After nearly an hour of discussions, Colonel Theerachai stated that police had questioned the victim’s friends, who believe the attackers were rival street racers. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects and trace their escape route.

 

The police have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and crack down on illegal street racing gangs, which have been a persistent issue in Bangkok.
