A 46-year-old Swedish national was discovered dead in a guesthouse room in Pai, Mae Hong Son province, on evening of 7 March. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death.

Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 19:30, when officers from the Tourist Assistance Centre received a report from the tourist police. The deceased, identified as Mr Karl, had been staying at Mr Chan Guesthouse, located on the road behind the courthouse in Pai district. He was in Thailand on a 60-day visa exempt entry.

According to an initial investigation by Pai police, there were no signs of physical trauma or struggle. However, officers noted needle marks in the crease of his right arm, while a syringe and cigarette butts were found near the body. There were no indications of theft, and the man’s belongings appeared undisturbed.

Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of death. The body is being sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact circumstances.

Local officials, including representatives from the Tourist Assistance Centre, are continuing their investigation.

Twenty years ago, Pai was like a 100 year step back into time, truly rural and undeveloped.  Now it seems to have become Khao Sarn Rd, North:  meeting point for "Heads" of all ilk: pot-heads, meth-heads, smack-heads and the pond scum that lives off of them.

More like Koh Phagnan of the north... :coffee1:

Like Sok San Rd in Siem Reap, where the PoPo recently started tossing out overstayers and meth heads.

The worst here is the ketamine. Jeez, zombies or what. And 50 cent beers.
