Pai Police Arrest 4 Foreign Tourists for Smoking Marijuana on Walking Street

I don't understand what this is about  Thailand legalised marijuana, now fines people for smoking it... What law did these guys break, that Thais don't.

What have tourist police got to do with it. These guys are BIB. Outside of a 711 with a friend the other day and he was having a cig. Some Thais warned us about police crackdown on smoking in public places. Same police that for the majority of time ignore the fact that some people riding bikes aren't wearing helmets. Again nothing to do with tourist police.

Perhaps, but Thais on the street smoking pot is quite rare, whereas in my travels, i see foreigners doing the same daily.

That is not to say Thais don't smoke weed. I smell weed often as I ride my bike through Thai neighborhoods, but on a busy public street, it is always a foreigner holding the joint

Well yeah, but there is likely less stink from all of the inconsiderate selfish pigs smoking cigarettes with no regard whatsoever around people who like and deserve to breathe clean air, especially in restaurants or other large crowds. Smokers, you can do as you will, but letting it blow into others' faces without a care in the world is disgusting. It's the same with marijuana, although it doesn't stink like cigarettes. I'm going to get a can of ƒɑrt spray and cut loose from now on every time it happens. No such thing as a no ƒɑrting area. Nothing illegal about that. If you're addicted to nicotine Switch to vapes. Vapes don't stink. No excuses. A ƒɑrt spray storm is about to blow in.

Spot on. These people are idiots with no respect. I'm not sure there's anywhere in the world you can just walk around smoking a joint whenever or wherever you want.

Exactly what I did but unfortunately the market has been closed down for now nation wide. Trying to protect kids from vaping. Those kids who now are more than likely addicted to nicotine to some extent will now buy cigs if they can't get hold of a vape. This is once again a knee jerk reaction to that 14 year old girl dying a couple of weeks ago. I still don't understand how a 12 year old girl can vape so much in two years that her lungs fail. That's a lot of vaping in a day, a week, a month, a year, two years. Very expensive. A very isolated incident that has closed down the entire market (for now). Vaping should be legal.

It won't be legalised while those in high places continue to support the sale of cigarettes manufactured by the Thai Tobacco Monopoly.

Thais have somewhere legal to smoke it - their home. It's illegal to smoke cigarettes let alone weed in hotels. Other than the dispensaries, the law forces tourist smokers out on to the streets. You'd think the cops would make an exception of Pai!

Agree. They sprout health issues and protecting children and youth but as you rightly point out it's about profits and taxes. I'll guarantee there's been a spike in cigarette sales since this huge vape crackdown started last week.
