Former; so no grudge to bear; could so could be also be won't and; what does interrupted actually mean. Get back to us in 30 to 90 days with your update.

No grudge. He resigned long ago in order to explore running for president. Nothing to do with the Trump and his Musk big ball boys.

Democrat. He is just trying to add more fuel to the anti-Trump fire coming from the cry baby idiots now in opposition who are obviously suffering from some sort of mental disorder. To not stand up in Congress on so many occasions when respect was called for and wave little signs like some uneducated undergraduate was disgusting. The woke radical left in the USA is now on life support.

As I said get back to us in 30-90 days. Anyone who legit gets social security will continue to get their social security. The next 30-90 days will prove if you or I are correct.

No it won't.

He only said that he saw a higher risk of a problem, and rational people believe him.

Of course people in the maga cult are not rational people by definition.

So why the thread? Surely it's just speculation or is it simply your (still not allowed to say it) obsession with all things Trump=all things bad and your need for attention? It is interesting though that you call the majority of American voters irrational. It was that sort of attitude from the idiots on the left (pushed by the MSM) that helped Trump over the line. Actually it was well over the line as history now attests to.

Blah blah blah.

Not everyone who voted for Trump is in the maga CULT.

Duh.

"Interesting" that nobody here has even shared an opinion on the main point about this topic.

The impact on 65k monthly baht retirement extensions IF even one month is skipped.

150+ year old people getting benefits.  So corrupt they should shut it down and arrest all the people committing fraud.

That whole claim by Musk and Trump was false and fraudulent, as the OP article by Forbes here explains, and has been detailed by numerous news agencies elsewhere.

"Musk had previous sparked concern about his plans for the safety net after he said tens of millions of dead Americans are receiving Social Security checks—a claim the Associated Press debunked.

And on Friday, he added to fears when he called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” and described the federal government as “one big pyramid scheme.”

In October, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan watchdog, said Trump’s policies would hasten the demise of Social Security’s trust fund."

It's totally disgusting that both Trump and Musk are still pushing that BIG LIE.

It's like we have totally insane, totally corrupt, people having such total power over our lives.

I know the magas will groan but I'm posting this item from an American expat in Ecuador as it roughly fits in with the general topic of possible issues with social security abroad after Trump 2.0.

With all the new sudden and unpredictable changes happening now with our US government, it’s even more important than ever to have as much information about what will affect expats the most—our social security benefits.

The most important thing you can do for yourself is to stay informed about your rights and responsibilities as an expat regarding your Social Security benefits.

Of course they do. But as you indicated, they don't get a lot of publicity.

This is the first step being taken to attempt to gut Social Security. False claims of "waste and fraud" to try to de-legitimize the Social Security system and then collapse it. Anyone who believes that the current administration won't try to curtail Social Security benefits for the average retiree hasn't been paying attention. This has always been part of the Republicans' ideology.

Anyone thinking any politician or party would cut SS benefits is an idiot IMHO

Political suicide.   Retirees make up too much of the voting public, along with all the rest who will rely on SS in the future.

"Elect me, and I'll take your future income away" ... there's a campaign slogan.

You seem to be forgetting that we currently have a billionaire running DOGE who has never been elected and probably never will run for election.  And Trump can't run for election again either.  Neither of them care at all about the republican party or about the results of any election after they are gone.

And neither one of them can cut SS bennies.  He didn't do any of the BS y'all are suggesting in his 1st term, and yet, he's going to end the world in his 2nd :cheesy:

He didn't try to end the department of education in his first term either.  He can't legally do that on his own either, but that doesn't stop him from trying.

Ending a department of govt that has repeated failed, is a good idea.   Nothing but wasted tax dollars for little to no return.

You are repeating the DOGE propaganda like a good robot.  Musk has said the exact same thing about social security--stating it is a failed program and nothing but a ponzi scheme.  What do you think will be next on the chopping block?

I guess you don't care that it is illegal for Trump to end the department of education without congress?  I bet you will care when he illegally ends something that affects you.

Again, he probably can't do that either by executive order.  That's what the 'checks & balances' of a 'democratic Republic' is about.

Although, since most agree, it is a failed department, shouldn't be too hard to downsize it, or get rid of it.  IF the people's representatives agree.

A bit different from changing SS, that most everyone wants to keep the same.

Why?

Because of the massive "chain saw" style firings, encouraged resignations, loss of normal transition training mechanisms, and loss of institutional knowledge held by long term staff.

Be clear -- he is not predicting PERMANENT CUT OFF of benefits. So no fear mongering here.

He's WARNING that a delay could happen because of the chaos that has indeed been caused.

IF this interruption happens it would be the first time in social security history.

Why am I posting this here?

Because I know many American retirees use the income method, importing 65K baht of more monthly to meet their annual retirement extension financial requirements.

So what happens if the payment is delayed for just one month (it could be much longer) so that your next payment is double covering the missed month?

Will Thai immigration accept that? My understanding is that they require monthly remits and missed months even just one are not allowed.

On top of the immigration issue of course the former head is warning people to save up their money to weather a delay.

Hopefully not too many expats are living that close to the bone, but clearly some are.

The news story.

Social Security payments could suffer interruption soon as DOGE causes ‘system collapse,’ former commissioner warns—‘start saving now’

The snopes analysis.

Ex-head of Social Security claimed DOGE actions could cause payment interruptions. Here's context | Snopes.com

www.snopes.com/news/2025/03/07/social-security-collapse-doge/

If they do this they might as well guarantee they'll lose the house to the senate. Even talking about it will lose the people now depending on SS. Ship of fools. And then immigration will question why there was a gap in your income when it's time tho extend stay.

Anyone who is concerned that the OP may be accurate might want to log on to their SSA.gov account and download your lifetime earnings page, your benefits verification letter, and your "manage workspace" page, if you've never done so previously.

I download the latter two annually (after the COLA increase).

(Semi-pro tip: If your earnings record is longer than one page, you can save it as a .pdf file by starting to "print" it, then preview it as a .pdf, then save that .pdf).

What else would you expect the liar-in-chief to say.... along with all the other lies and nonsense he has spouted, and then later ignored, during his political career.

And this comes as Trump and Musk are trying to dismiss thousands of SSA employees, and pushing Republican tax legislation that non-partisan experts have said would hasten the demise of the current SS system and require major cuts in SS benefits by the early 2030s.

"In October, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan watchdog, said Trump’s policies would hasten the demise of Social Security’s trust fund.

It predicted that the Social Security Board of Trustees would start cutting benefits by 2031 instead of 2034 because the fund that covers the deficit between outlays and revenue would run out of money sooner."
