If you netted it all out, I wonder if more Filipinos died, or more were saved by his policies?

Never mind that I suspect it was the bad guys dying.

It was all for nothing. The drug business is back to normal, as robust as ever. No one in the world ever succeeded in wiping out the drug trade. It's impossible.

He made lots of enemies and they are coming after him.

Well, they are not letting him out. They put him on the plane to the Hague.

Color me pink.

The one who is really shaking in his boots now is not Thaksin, it is Netanyahu. He will be next.

He actually Cleaned Up own country.

During his reign, public safety is said to be greatly improved.

He then became enormously popular among the ordinary people.

The trouble is many innocent people were killed. I remember reading a number of cases where bystanders were killed by Cops. One of the cases concerned a young girl killed on a motorbike when the police shot at her Father who was driving.

A number of Cops used the clampdown as an excuse to settle old scores, not drug related. Also seems a bit harsh to shot and kill small time recreational drug users.

I have visited Cebu in the Philippines many times with my wife and can’t say I ever felt threatened or unsafe prior to Duterte becoming President.

Probably mostly bad guys, but with quite a few  mostly goodish guys just trying to make a "buck" to feed their families..  legalise the drugs and then the govmnt won't have the mandate to kill "innocent civilians"  unfortunately they will just find another excuse as always.

I'm not in favor of killing dealers.  If that's their only crime.

I'm not opposed to killing dealers who also commit murder, extortion and other heinous crimes in pursuit of illegal profits.  The ones that murder their rivals and witnesses and cops and gub'ment officials.  The world could do without them stealing oxygen.
