A foreign tourist has stirred anger in Krabi after allegedly dining and dashing from a popular restaurant, Into the Forest, in the Khao Thong subdistrict. The incident, which took place on March 9, went viral after CCTV footage showed the man leaving without settling his bill, prompting a public alert.

Described as tall and tattooed, the man ordered a lavish meal, including a ribeye steak and a drink, totalling about 700 baht. After the meal, he ordered a cake but used the moment to slip away under the guise of visiting the restroom.

Restaurant employee Kwanta shared the deceitful encounter, noting that the tourist drove a sedan with a Phuket licence plate, likely a rental. He spent 15 to 20 minutes inside the restaurant before making his escape.

"He seemed normal, ordering food and then a cake. But as I was entering his order, he said, 'I’ll be right back,' and vanished," Kwanta recounted. Her colleague noticed something amiss when the man swiftly exited to his car and drove off.

The restaurant reported the incident to Krabi Immigration Police to help locate the suspect and recover the unpaid amount. Meanwhile, locals are on alert, with businesses warned to exercise caution.

A Facebook user, Sloth Sa, shared the footage, urging the public to identify the man. The restaurant has also provided a detailed description, encouraging anyone with information to reach out via Facebook or phone at 063 062 1296. As the investigation unfolds, the community hopes to apprehend the individual responsible for the brazen act, reported The Thaiger.

Very odd...

There has been a spate of 'dine and dash' reports on this forum recently...

Is this on the increase ?...

....  or is it simple a 'news contagion effect' where news of a specific issue garners attention and thus becomes 'more reportable' and is reported on more often.

I wouldn't be able to enjoy a meal if I knew that I wasn't going to pay for it. I hope it's worth it to him to ruin his reputation for 700 baht when he gets caught, which he will.

700 baht? If I was gonna dine and dash, I'd go for 700 dollars.

I don't think I'd call 700 baht a lavish meal ....   1,700 maybe .... but not 700.

he shouldn't be too hard to track down if she knows the car or better still the licence plate or don't they have an outdoor CCTV ...

The blurred face and shot of his back should help in tracking him down.

They're not asking The Thaiger or AN members to do the tracking, it's just a news report.

You do know you've left yourself totally open to a Liverpool Lou attack don't you?

I'm not sure how he will snipe you, but you know he will Steven....

If it's not you then it's me, for possibly putting a comma in the wrong place?

It's going to end in tears for one of us...
