A devastating fire engulfed a used car dealership in Surat Thani in the early hours of the morning of 14 March, destroying eight vehicles and causing damage estimated at over 2 million baht. Firefighters battled the blaze for 30 minutes before bringing it under control.

At 03:40, police from Mueang Surat Thani Police Station received reports of a fire at a second-hand car dealership next to Vibhavadi Camp Hospital, located on Liang Mueang Road, Makham Tia Subdistrict. Upon arrival, emergency responders found flames engulfing the dealership’s office building, rapidly spreading to vehicles parked under the structure.

The Surat Thani Municipal Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit and the Kusolsattha Surat Thani Rescue Foundation dispatched fire engines to the scene.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to other nearby car dealerships. However, by the time the flames were extinguished, seven cars and one pickup truck had been completely destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, as no one was present at the site when the fire broke out.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the covered structure, before spreading to the vehicles. However, authorities are awaiting further forensic analysis to determine the exact cause.

I'm surprised that there's not more used car dealership fires considering the state of used car sales the last few years.
