A gunman stormed a gold shop in Pathum Thani’s Lam Luk Ka district, making off with gold jewellery weighing 13 baht before fleeing on a motorcycle. Authorities are now conducting an intensive manhunt to track down the suspect.

At around 12:30 on 14 March, officers from Khu Khot Police Station responded to reports of a robbery at a gold shop located on Saiwai Pracharat Road in Lat Sawai Subdistrict. The one-unit shop, situated along the roadside, was staffed by two female employees, both left shaken by the ordeal.

According to Ms. Supharak, a counter clerk, the suspect, a tall, young male with a central Thai accent, approached the store wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet, a blue jacket over a light blue shirt, jeans, and blue sneakers. He arrived on a motorbike and claimed to be delivering documents. When she opened the automatic door, he drew a black handgun and ordered her to hand over gold jewellery, threatening to shoot if she refused.

When she hesitated, the suspect took matters into his own hands, reaching into a drawer and grabbing gold necklaces and bars before making a swift getaway on his white Honda scooter.

Police Colonel Kantaphon Wanna, the station’s superintendent, confirmed that the stolen items included 12 baht of gold necklaces and 1 baht of gold bars, which belonged to customers who had left them for safekeeping.

Authorities are now analysing CCTV footage to trace the suspect’s escape route and identify his whereabouts.

I think the helmet may be a give-away.

UPDATE
Man Arrested for Gold Shop Robbery in Pathum Thani, Blames Online Gambling Addiction

Picture from reenactment.

Police have arrested a 36-year-old man who robbed a gold shop in Pathum Thani, making off with 13 baht-weight of gold. The suspect, identified as Mr. Satawat “Ta” Panyokij, admitted to committing the crime due to financial difficulties and an addiction to online gambling.

At approximately 10:00 on March 16, officers from Khu Khot Police Station, led by Pol. Col. Kantaphon Wanna, apprehended the suspect at a convenience store in Khlong Si, Khlong Luang district. The arresting team recovered the stolen gold jewellery, a sum of cash, and the white Honda Giorno motorbike used in the getaway.

According to Pol. Col. Kantaphon, the suspect deliberately avoided gold shops in Khlong Luang, where security measures are stricter. Instead, he sought out a store without security grilles or guards, making it an easier target.

The suspect confessed that he chose this particular shop because it had only female staff and was covered with dark window film, preventing passers-by from seeing inside. He believed these factors would allow him to escape undetected.

Following the incident, police have urged gold shop owners to reinforce their security by installing clear glass windows, security grilles, and additional security personnel.

During questioning, Mr. Satawat admitted that he committed the robbery due to financial and family problems, worsened by his addiction to online gambling.

Police have charged him with theft. He remains in custody while further investigations take place.
