OK I had a well used Android box just fritz out on me the other day. There was something on the screen about HDMI and then it went kaput. No reponse at all to powering up anymore so decided it was game over on that one.

So ordered a new box and found it impossible to set up.

It won't accept internet by LAN or wireless but I know they work as they did for the old box and the wireless works directly to the TV.

I then tried connecting from a mobile hotspot -- just the same the Android box could not be connected to the internet.

It does see the wireless sources so can choose and enter correct pwd but just always fails to connect.

So I'm thinking either the box is defective or there is something very weird with my setup.

I'm sending the box back and it will be either fixed or replaced, but I'm kind of expecting to get a new box that they say will work and find the same problem.

I had considered it might be about my router settings which I haven't looked at but again the router does work for the tv and did work for years on the old box.

I've tried all the usual troubleshooting things to no avail but I did buy a new lan cable which I haven't tried yet.

Any ideas?

If you specify the box you have and its supposed features someone may be able to offer some suggestions.

Do you have the same issues with both 2.5GHz and 5GHz?

Yes.

I had this problem with Google Chromecast purchased in US, but wouldn't connect to WiFi in another country, then it worked in Thailand...!!! , something to do with region restriction..., very strange.

Well it took this long to get this resolved.

Turned out I did get a weirdly defective box.

It was a new problem for the seller as well.

Got a replacement which works perfectly.

Other than the problem with the dud, I am loving the new box.

It's being marketed as a budget version of Nvidia Shield which are wildly overpriced in Thailand.

It's a MECOOL KM2 PLUS DELUXE.

Yes you can get boxes for under 1000 baht and this one was over 5000 but I use my Android boxes a lot.

MECOOL KM2 PLUS DELUXE is closer to 4,000 baht than 5000 baht. Even direct from MeCool is 4,700 baht. I don't know how you managed to pay more than 5,000 baht.

Not that it's an issue, as long as you are happy with the performance.

Unless you actually need Widevine Level 1 for use with Netflix 4k,  Amazon Prime and the like, you can get away with a 2k box, such as a ToX3 from TrustOnX.

Information only for others perusing the thread.
