Explosion and Fire Rip Through Commercial Building in Residential Area
Pictures from responders. A fire broke out on 20 March, in a three-storey commercial building housing a construction company in the middle of a residential area in Bang Khun Thian. The blaze, which triggered loud explosions and sent thick black smoke into the sky, took firefighters nearly an hour to bring under control. The fire started at around midday in a commercial property located at the end of Soi Sagaengam 39/1, Sagaengam Road, Samae Dam Subdistrict. The building, which functioned as both a materials storage facility and a dormitory for workers, was engulfed in flames on the ground floor when emergency services arrived. Firefighters from Bang Khun Thian Fire Station were dispatched to the scene and worked for approximately 50 minutes before successfully extinguishing the blaze. The building was used by a construction company to store materials such as gypsum boards and paint, both flammable substances. Witnesses reported hearing explosions moments before the fire erupted. “I was working at the front of a nearby print shop when I suddenly heard loud bangs coming from inside the building,” said Mr. Yai, 35, an employee at the print shop. “Then I saw thick black smoke pouring out from behind the metal shutters.” He immediately alerted the authorities. The company owner, Mr. Phakin, 49, confirmed that the premises were used as both a storage facility and accommodation for seven to eight workers. Fortunately, no one was inside when the fire broke out. “I only found out about the fire when one of my workers called me,” he said. The cause of the blaze remains unknown. Officers from Tha Kham Police Station have called in forensic experts to conduct a thorough examination of the scene. Authorities will assess the extent of the damage and determine the cause of the fire before proceeding with legal action if necessary. The incident has raised concerns among local residents, as the presence of commercial storage facilities within residential areas poses a significant fire risk. Neighbours have expressed fears over safety regulations and the potential dangers of hazardous materials being stored close to homes. -- 2025-03-21 -

Mother Discovers Son’s Body in Shocking Incident in Bang Lamung
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A mother was left devastated after discovering her son had taken his own life in their rented room in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, early morning on 20 March. Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit were alerted to the incident at 05:00. They arrived at the unnamed row house accommodation, where they found the body of 34-year-old Mr. Ekaphop in Room 11. The deceased, wearing a grey t-shirt and denim shorts, had died by hanging. His body had been taken down before authorities arrived. According to his mother, Mrs. Chomsri, 53, her son had been struggling emotionally following the breakdown of his marriage. Despite his repeated attempts to reconcile with his former wife, she refused to return to him. Speaking to police, Mrs. Chomsri recalled a chilling remark her son had made in the past: “If one of us had to die, I would rather it be me than you, Mum.” However, she never imagined he would act on such thoughts, especially as he had a young child to care for. The grieving mother explained that she had gone to bed at around 23:00 the previous night and woke up at 04:30 to prepare for work. Noticing her son’s bicycle was missing, she glanced over at his sleeping area and saw his legs hanging down. Turning on the light, she was horrified to find him lifeless. Shocked and distraught, she immediately contacted the authorities. However, by the time emergency responders arrived, it was too late. Police have recorded details of the incident and documented the scene. The body has been transferred to Pattaya Patthamakorn Hospital, where it will remain until family members arrange a funeral. -- 2025-03-21
