Selling Online - Payment Gateways - Bad News from Stripe !

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, bad news for Stripe payment gateway users, they are now charging if you want to challenge a dispute!

It was bad enough getting hit 20 quid for receiving a chargeback, now they charging another 20 quid to challenge it. This brings the total fees to 40 quid plus their percentage. This basically means any sales under say 50 quid are just totally lost if the customer chargesback on their card.

This is giving some people a license to commit very easy theft/fraud.

I think its really damaging to small business and I for one will be looking for an alternate service or payment gateway, any suggestions please ?

my brother uses woopayments on his wordpress site

he seems happy so far

Stripe are bad news but unfortunately they are a major player in this arena. They have crippled several SaaS owners businesses that I know and keep adding requirements to qualification and different business models to their non compliance list.

I use them for my marketing agency and i am always nervous they will just suspend the account for no reason and retain the funds as they have with other digital business owners that I know. I am looking to change but have current contracts running through them.

Alternatives will depend on your location but there are a few.

Worldpay is pretty solid but slightly higher processing fees, SendOwl - depending on what you are selling, GoCardless, Adyen, Square, Braintree, Authorize.net.

There are lots more and as I have said, it depends on what you sell and your location
