Funds in the bank for a marriage or retirement extension
Not quite correct. The time you have to show that the funds came from overseas is when you are trying to convert from a tourist entry (tourist visa or visa exempt) into a non-O from within Thailand at an immigration office. The money to apply for the 1-year extension does not have the requirement to show that it came from overseas. It just needs to be in your account for the required amount of time. The only other time you have to show that money came from overseas is if you try to switch to the monthly transfers method in the future. Then each of your monthly transfers (40,000 or 65,000 baht) must be coded as an international transfer. -

Drunken Man Assaulted After Harassing Street Vendor in Udon Thani
Picture courtesy of Matichon. A drunken man was left with a bloodied forehead after allegedly harassing a female street vendor, prompting two teenagers to intervene and attack him. At approximately 15:00 on 19 March, Pol. Sgt. Banjong Ruadrew, an officer from Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, received a report of an assault near the Napalai Hotel on Pracharaksa Road. Emergency responders from the Udon Sawang Methatham Rescue Foundation were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a 47-year-old man, later identified as Mr. Wijitra, with two deep wounds on his forehead, blood covering his face and clothing. He appeared intoxicated and claimed he had been attacked by a group of Myanmar nationals while collecting recyclables in Khlong Charoen alley. However, further investigation revealed a different story. Two 17-year-olds, Mr. Teekhayu, known as “Pae,” and Mr. Pawit, known as “Phop,” came forward to admit they were responsible for the attack. According to their statements, they were selling orange juice, milk, and snacks near the Udon Thani Sports College intersection before taking a break in Khlong Charoen alley. A 45-year-old female vendor, who sells grass jelly from a sidecar motorcycle, approached them seeking help. Her vehicle had broken down due to a chain malfunction and damaged rear wheel. She explained that Mr. Wijitra, who was heavily intoxicated, had offered to fix it but instead began harassing her. Fearing for her safety, she sought assistance from the teenagers. The two intervened, repairing the vendor’s motorcycle themselves, which angered Mr. Wijitra. As they worked, he attempted to interfere and later picked up a wooden object, trying to chase one of them into a nearby wooded area. In response, Pae distracted him while Phop grabbed a glass louvre pane and struck him on the forehead, causing the injuries. Despite his injuries, Mr. Wijitra continued to wander the streets, shouting that he had been attacked by Myanmar nationals. He was eventually found near the Napalai Hotel, where emergency services provided first aid before transporting him to hospital. A witness, 40-year-old Ms. Lampan, who was driving past the scene, noticed the injured man stumbling along the roadside, his face covered in what initially appeared to be paint. Upon closer inspection, she realised it was blood and immediately called rescue services for assistance. The two teenagers later led police to the scene of the altercation, about 300 metres from the Napalai Hotel, but the female vendor was no longer present. However, Mr. Wijitra’s motorised motorcycle and sidecar was found parked nearby. Pol. Sgt. Banjong confirmed that both teenagers had given their statements and would remain under investigation. Authorities are now waiting for Mr. Wijitra to be discharged from hospital to determine whether he wishes to press charges. Police are also attempting to locate the female vendor to corroborate the allegations against him before proceeding with legal action. -- 2025-03-21 -
