Seems like we're being victimised by having to lose face again. Charming. "Thailand has long been a popular destination for British tourists, but recent reports suggest a concerning trend: an apparent uptick in criminal activities involving British nationals." Beat me to that one! No mention of any other nationalities where the "real" criminals seem to come from - Chinese triads, Russian mafia, Nigerian scammers etc etc. Seems that a handful of Brits caught at Samui Airport attempting to smuggle out cannabis are to blame for "an apparent uptick in criminal activities involving British nationals". Priorities eh? 1
BexMan Posted Tuesday at 02:43 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:43 AM “Thailand has long been a popular destination for British tourists, but recent reports suggest a concerning trend: an apparent uptick in criminal activities involving British nationals. This development has captured the attention of both Thai authorities and international observers.” Lazy journalism akin to click bait. The British Embassy issued a report with the number of British arrested in 2024 as totalling 220, so the Journalist decided to do a story. Other than 2015/6 when 194 British were arrested, there are no other figures available hence “apparent uptick” Hardly a significant increase of 26 people from 7/8 years ago and for all the Journalist knows it could have actually decreased from 2023. The 220 only represent 1.5% of the total 14275 Foreigners arrested. If figures for Russian and Chinese arrests were available I suspect they would be significantly higher. 1 1

Recent cases, such as the capture of a British national involved in child molestation identified from fake passport details, showcase these technological advancements. Didn't this guy get sick and go home? And was caught at home? How were the "Thai authorities" involved in this other than saying "yep, he was here"?

jcmj Posted Tuesday at 03:06 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:06 AM How can they really say that they don’t have specific numbers of the people that are breaking the laws. The headline in every article starts of with a Foreigner from _______ did________or was caught doing ________. Just read the news headlines and you will get pretty much an idea of where they are from and what they did.

On par with the UK, Germany ect Even though it was build by ex convict. How do you explain that ?

About 10-12 years ago they put an iPad with a SIM card in a BMW and called it a smart car. They could honestly look up your facebook profile if you gave them the name. Who knows what they will come up with next? They might coordinate databases between provinces like USA did with the states back in the 1980’s and perhaps even look up your TM30. Just kidding. I called the immigration hotline and gave them every detail of my passport and adress that I self reported, just for fun and they had no idea where I lived. It’s a joke. No joke. Big Joke. 1

Australia is a great nation and its government has demonstrated much more integrity than alot of the inbred European barbarian nations. But if all the Brits with a criminal record were denied a visa it would probably drastically reduce numbers. I think they are just getting what they're bound to get when they allow people to arrive unchecked, and as someone else mentions, it ain't just Brits. (Pre-COVID figures suggested that more Brits visit Thailand than any other farang nationality). 'erm ' those smart cars are doing what now ???.

Cameroni Posted Tuesday at 05:02 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:02 AM I suppose things in the UK are going downhill economically, so certain sectors of the population are resorting to whatever means to make some cash. Imagine if Brits become the new Albanians. 2 1
jojothai Posted Tuesday at 05:03 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:03 AM Total nonsense without any statistics. With all the smart technologies, they cannot even compile basic statistics. Crack down on crime, yes. But have some basis for properly judging the trends instead of relying on media reports. Its obviously too much to expect. 1

keysersoze276 Posted Tuesday at 05:17 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:17 AM I’m not British, so I could be wrong, but didn’t the British Embassy advise Brits to avoid travel to Thailand 2-3 weeks ago? If my foggy memory serves me right, is a sudden crackdown targeting Brits some crazy coincidence? Sorry fellas, Thailand had to scapegoat somebody. I’m pretty sure if Thailand somehow magically deported every single Brit in Thailand, it would just make more room for the others and foreign crime would escalate. Not to say foreign crime is more rampant that Thai crime and corruption.
