I assume the figures are correct.  If, as stated elsewhere, it is also correct that Europe could not do to the Houthi what the US can, then surely Europe should be paying the US for its military support on a contract basis - separate EU and British invoices.  And pay enough of a premium to help Europe realise that it needs to build up its own defensive and offensive capabilities so that it doesn't need to rely on the US.

 

To be clear, I'm British.  I've read nothing so far in these leaked messages that I fundamentally disagree with, apart from the craziness of them getting caught out in this schoolboy error-laden way.  Europe has free-loaded off of the US for a very long time; it has to stop.  I just hope the US politicians look at the big picture to see if there are downsides to this.  I haven't looked at those risks, but there may be some in there ( I guess risks were found during the cold war to make the US think it was worthwhile sending its military to West Germany) and I'd rather middle ground can be found rather than the typical extremist right or left views.  But paying for the military support seems entirely reasonable to me.
