It's not so dumb to Canadians.

"President" Trump has repeatedly and openly stated his intention to annex Canada as the 51st state and his opening tool for that is an extremely aggressive trade war.

Obviously the USA has much more military power than Canada if it came to that, but the same can be said of Russia vs. Ukraine and it's now three years later in an "SMO" that was supposed to take a few days.

Don't be ridiculous! The only reason Ukraine held out more than a few weeks is due to Europe, and mainly your countries' military aid.

Yes, you have no moral compass.

Russian engaged in an illegal invasion and barbaric war crimes including the rape of children, the kidnapping of children and looting.

Germans engaged in unalwful activities and a genocide.

US nationals invading Canada for no reason other than economic expansionism would do so without support of their nation and most likely no authorization from Congress.  US citizens  objecting would be patriots.

There would be a second front inside the US if POTUS started any bizarre action. If such an absurdity came to pass, I'd have no problem grabbing my own AR-15 (yes, even us "lefties" are armed) and culling me some MAGAs. I would consider them traitors and I'd be doing patriotic work. Any order to attack Canada (or much more likely Greenland) would be an illegal order and no soldier would be obliged to follow it.

On a related note if you would support Canada over imperialist trump a related question is are you boycotting American goods and services now?

Montreal and Quebec City are brilliant destinations. Lots of great architecture. Also great ashkenazi Jewish food in Montreal including smoked meat which is  similar to pastrami.

Well Trump will probably be able to grab Greenland without much domestic pushback. But I agree that Canada is an entirely different kettle of fish. Most Americans feel very warmly about Canada. Best friends ever until Trump turned it all to caca as he does to everything he touches.

I loved visiting both places including Montreal delis.

Not in my experience.

Well, I may be exaggerating the sweetness a bit for effect. But it's there.

Compared to the New York-style bagel—a bulbous bread monster—these are smaller, less chewy, and sweeter, thanks to some honey or malt syrup. The bagels are hand-rolled then bathe in sweetened boiling water, and finally baked in a big wood-fired oven.

The poll question speaks for itself.

What is your point other than creating more animosity and ill-will among  posters on this forum. Maybe you should submit a poll asking users who posts the most inane subject matter and tries to create division.

Funny. Actually your post seems destined to create more animosity and ill-will among posters. Irony much?

I wonder if there might be a mutiny among officers and enlisted soldiers if they were ordered to go to war against Canada to acquire it as a 51st state.. It's obvious that it would violate international law. They could consider it an illegal order. I doubt that they would have much appetite for it.

That's rich.

According to you military service is a requirement of US citizenship. Totally ridiculous. On the other hand if it could get Musk deported wouldn't be all bad.

Musk's US companies employ roughly 125,000 people who might not be so happy about it.

He's also the biggest taxpayer in US history, and he has more right to help reduce government waste than any other person in the US.

The deportation of the gang members to el salvador was a signal for the rest of the gang members still in the US to flee to Canada. That will be their problem

Canada will send more Fentanyl to the US. From China, with love.

Trump.

Keep your greasy liddle hands off Canada!

We, who live in America's hat, thank you for your concern. But please stop.

Nobody is seriously worried about sovereignty or invasion or any of that hyperbolic nonsense. Like most things, Trump will bloviate, talk big to establish a negotiating position, then get reasonable. It is happening already. He and PM Carney had a phone conversation that both think went very well. He referred to Carney as "Prime Minister"- obviously the T-man hated Trudeau with the fire of a thousand suns. Which most sensible people would agree with.

So enough. Throw your support behind the Conservative Party and Pierre Polievre, a true patriot, a man who will stand up for Canada. Not just against the US, but against China and the malign influence of the Euro-fascists of the WEF and Davos.

There is a huge difference in shooting at tin cans, paper targets and glass bottles in shooting at disciplined troops who are properly trained and shooting back at a rabble of undisciplined people who are self taught.

Of course @Yagoda won't go and fight anyone who fights back.

The biggest problem in annexing a country is that you will have to garrison it, which in the case of a country the size of Canada (or Greenland for that matter), the USA will need an enormous amount of boots on the ground.

I wouldn't fight on the ground for Canada either, but that is because I am 80 years old and walk with a stick. That doesn't mean that I don't support them though.

How do you know what Ill do?

Garrison? The Canadian government took everyones guns away. Piece of cake.

We can have the Quebecois garrison Ontario.

So Trump p****s off the pesky Canadians to the point where they start boycotting US products and stops going on holidays there in order to establish a negotiating position to do what?

Renegotiate the trade deal he himself was behind and referred to as the best trade deal ever made?

Pierre Polievre. Now there's a man who quickly went from Trump lover to "not his biggest fan". He had the election tied up big time but now all indicators say he will lose, fairly bigly.

Yet another victim of the trumpster fire.

Most of the boycotts are gaslighting- politicians looking to cash in on cheap political vibe. In the end, Canadians will go south for vacation. The weak Canadian dollar (thanks to the Liberals) is far more of a factor than any boycott.

As for Polievre, there is no evidence that he is a Trump clone. He is fairly centrist, practical, and a touch populist. Not sure where you are getting your election coverage, but the race is tight now. The Liberals have had their "honeymoon bounce" and have nowhere to go but down. Mark Carney is a terrible politician at the retail level. Unlikeable, uncomfortable, and far too cagey about his personal finances. Plus, his French is not up to par- notice how eagerly he ditched a French language debate with a major broadcaster in Quebec.

I predict we will see a slim majority Conservative victory. Less than the landslide if Trudeau had stayed, but a victory nonetheless.
