No she's not. Do keep up.

French far-right leader Le Pen sentenced to prison and banned from office in embezzlement trial. Le Pen may still appeal the four-year sentence, two years of it suspended, and five-year political ban, which came after she was found guilty of misusing $3 million to pay party staff.

Edit: From Reuters:

Le Pen's five-year public office ban cannot be suspended by appeal, although she will retain her parliamentary seat until her term ends. She also received a four-year prison sentence - two years of which are suspended and two years to be served under home detention, and a 100,000-euro ($108,200) fine, but they will not apply until her appeals are exhausted.

I predict they will remove the jail sentence and keep the political ban.

After all, the political ban was the whole point of all this.

I'm sure they are plotting how to jail or disqualify Jordan Bardella as we speak.

Given his youth and looks, removing Le Pen might spectacularly backfire like it did with the Trump kangaroo court. Leftists appear incapable of learning lessons.

A united left will always defeat the right in any election in France. Trump and Elon antics are not boosting the right wingers in Europe.

I agree with you. EVERYONE storming the US Capitol on 6 January 2021 should have been Babbitized.

Say again? You would support the murder of unarmed American protesters.?

That figures with your user name

It's good that France is not like the US. In the USA, a criminal, a liar and a fraudster could become president.

In France, the judiciary is still independent! Thank God or whomever!

The qualification run for office are defined in the US Constitution.

You must have conclusive proof of her innocence, or you're just a fascist who thinks your ilk are incapable of committing crimes.

It seems MAGAs and righties are more than a bit thick, too ignorant to learn the historical lessons of when rule of law breaks down and the guilty are allowed to get away scot free.

LOL…Hillary Clinton and Teddy Kennedy are mocking you.   So is Joe BIden

So true. I don't mind terrorists getting shot at all, and that bunch should have been met by a hail of bullets, not flimsy barricades.

Does this apply to the lefties setting Teslas on fire?  This this apply to the lefties engaged in the 2020 summer of love?

It was her father Jean-Marie Le Pen who indoctrinated her in her xenophobic and racist beliefs, and it was her father who originally set up the scheme to siphon EU deputy and EU deputy assistant staff salaries and expenses to support the National Rassemblement (formerly National Front) party. She finally expelled her father in 2015 from the party because he kept exposing such extreme and politically unpalatable views. When he died in January of this year she said she would "never forgive herself" for having expelled him from the party. When you consider that he was the one who set up the scheme, and no doubt encouraged her to continue it, I can't help but wonder whether she is now not only able to forgive herself, but wishing she had done it a decade sooner.

Oh really, is that why French President Nicolas Sarkozy was convicted of corruption and given a one year prison sentence on 30th September 2021 ¯\_()_/¯

The conviction followed the term in office.

Spot the difference?

B.S.!

Judges have to apply the law. The law is clear and the evidence is unambiguous.

A law which was voted by lawmakers to prevent politicians from being corrupt. :coffee1:

In case I wasn't clear enough. The inegibility sanction is not optional, it is mandatory. The judges (they were three) have to apply it. They are not allowed to decide otherwise.
