Well, I purchased an "earthquake amulet" that the seller said would guarantee me against harm in the event of another earthquake.  Sorted!

There goes all the devaluation of penthouses and the up valuation of townhouses and detached houses which I last checked - one detached house is going for 64m Thai baht 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm a bit confused by the OP.

Are there predictable and unpredictable quakes?

In simple terms no - with existing technology short-term predication of  a pending earthquake within months or even years is impossible.

Probabilistic forecasting might tell us there is a xx% probability of >6 Mw magnitude earthquake occurring within the next 20 years etc...

In relation to earthquakes and dangerous lightning, it's easier to predict where they might occur than when. Take a look at the available earthquake monitors on the internet.

The only thing I can count on is that I can’t count on anything for sure. It’s like the ground keeps shifting, but somehow, that’s still the ground. Fitting context:

We humans tend to reduce uncertainty by introducing all kinds of technology, and in doing so, we often become addicted to it.
