Thailand Braces for Impact of Potential US Tariffs Amidst Tense Trade Talks

I guess more countries need to broaden their geographic markets to exclude the USA if possible. Africa is a potential market looking at all the Nigerians here.

Really, when a box of Cheeze-Its cost the equivalent of $15+ bucks and a box of Cream of Wheat costs close to $18+ bucks, you know the US is being taken advantage of by Thailand. I go to Rimping and just shake my head at the price of US food items that I know have been marked up by 2-times, 3-times, or more than what they cost in the US.ย  Needless to say I don't buy much in the way of farang food.ย  Items like Olive Oil which is a staple in my cooking I buy and simply ignore the price.ย  But discretionary items like snack foods I simply ignore.ย  Of course with that said, I tend to eat healthier.ย  Lots of inexpensive fruits and vegetables for the local market, and meats like pork, chicken, and items like eggs which cost significantly less here in Thailand. So yeah - I'd like to see Thailand smacked along side the head with the US tariff stick.ย  Like you said, maybe those items fromย  home might become more affordable.

I also would not mind the US company selling a bag of more than half air with a few chips smacked across the head. Right, the rest of the globe will buy American so those corporate officers can โ€œearnโ€ the outsized salary and bonus. OK, you are right, I am biased โ€ฆ I cannot afford to live a sustainable working middle class retirement in my own country. Fortunately, Thailand has allowed what I have earned in a mutually beneficial relationship. I am spending my earned US retirement funds here in Thailand. Donโ€™t tell The Donald, there are millions of us economic refugees subsidizing other countries.
