A British man is in critical condition after reportedly shooting himself in the head while playing Russian roulette under the influence of cannabis and nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas”. The incident took place at a condominium in Chaiyapruek 1 Soi 3, Pattaya, during night of 8 April.

At 21:35, Pol. Lt. Col. Panasarn Khrongsit, deputy inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, received a report of a foreign national who had sustained a serious gunshot wound to the head. He immediately notified Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, and coordinated with Pol. Lt. Col. Apichat Jarurak, a senior officer with the Tourist Police Division, as well as local rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation.

Upon arrival at the 11th-floor room (number 1119) of the condominium, rescue teams found a man later identified only as “Michael,” a British national, lying unconscious in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the centre of his forehead. Emergency medical responders performed CPR at the scene before rushing him to hospital in a critical condition.

The scene showed clear evidence of substance use. Blood was splattered across the floor, and several used balloons were found, believed to have contained nitrous oxide. A revolver, identified as a .38 calibre handgun, was also recovered with one spent shell casing still inside the chamber.

A 29-year-old Lithuanian national, identified only as Mr. J, who shared the condo with the victim, told police that Michael had consumed cannabis and inhaled nitrous oxide before suggesting they play Russian roulette. Mr. J said he refused and went to lie down, only to hear the sound of the revolver clicking, followed shortly after by a loud gunshot. He rushed over to find his friend critically injured and immediately alerted another friend to contact the authorities while he sought help from the building’s security personnel.

Pattaya police, along with forensic officers from Chonburi’s Region 2 Scientific Crime Detection Centre, are conducting a detailed investigation. Evidence has been collected from the room, and Mr. J has been taken in for questioning. Authorities are now trying to determine the origin of the firearm.

Police stated that further forensic testing, including gunshot residue analysis on both the victim and his roommate, will be conducted to clarify the circumstances leading up to the incident.

The case remains under investigation.

Russian roulette, odd game to pay, the outcome is obvious.

Wouldn't even attempt to play it with an unloaded revolver that I'd unloaded myself and checked many times over😫

Oh, those perky Russians once again in Thailand?

Let us bash them :clap2:

Let us hold them accountable for everything bad on Earth.

Not that I'm an expert in anything Russian, but I thought the traditional method was to spin the chamber and point the revolver sideways at your temple, or possibly stick the barrel in your mouth.

Holding the revolver backwards pointing at the centre of one's forehead seems untraditional and somewhat contortive.

British version of Russian roulette?

Thai police version is to point to back of your head. Pretty difficult to bend your hand like that but still works as evidence for suicide.

Russians should limit the use of the game to Russians only and encourage to use it as game of national pride among themselves. World would become better place.

Is it common for a foreigner in Thailand to possess a a .38 caliber handgun?

He should be fine.

He obviously had no brains to blow out.

This  was also said at the time when Trump got hit in the ear if the bullet had gone in one ear and out the other.

Still sad about the Brit. Someone surely loved him.

Drugs, bloody drugs!

It seems like it was good s**t. S**t being the operative word.

Nitrous is always the same. It's neither good nor bad. It doesn't effect behavior or judgment the way alcohol does because it wears off rapidly, and is an analgesic (pain reliever) and not an intoxicant. The big risk is from inhaling too much and passing out because of oxygen depletion and getting hurt. It is considered non toxic and is widely used in dentistry. In the US I was always given nitrous from a continuous feed during dental procedures, in which I was fully conscious. In this case, just my opinion, this was simply the result of youthful stupidity. If he was drinking that would have added to the stupidity. That's why I don't like being around drunks. Drunk=stupid.

in thailand? expats? thais? both?

you can literally die laughing, right? asphyxiation? but in this case, he shot himself ... it clouds judgment or what?

Nitrous does not cloud judgment. Its effect doesn'y last long enough, and during the effect you are not coordinated enough to manage anything like a firearm. It is an analgesic, a pain reliever, and has very little other effect other than sedation. Like most people here, you are drawing conclusions without being fully informed.
