Australia has a 10% tariff in the US, the US now has a 10% tariff on Australia, this is the case with most world countries, while it does mean adjustments in the market it evens out the playing field  making US made goods cheaper than imported ones for americans. The US companies it is effecting are the ones that produce overseas using cheap labour then getting extra tariff prices sending to the US, while sending US made overseas may drop buying US made in the US should increase.

Yesterday was "50 countries" have called (they are not confirming, and "called" could mean to tell him to go eff himself), I'm sure it will be 70 tomorrow, and by next week he'll quote a number higher than the number of countries who exist on the planet.

 

A Recession is now guaranteed. A Depression is maybe a 70% chance. Wall Street is hobbled....no IPOs, no bond issuance, rates climbing for anything other than Triple A corporate debt (and likely to lead to defaults if a Recession comes), hiring plans on hold or shelved, and earnings likely to tumble.  POTUS considered all of that? Only a fool believes he did.

 

401ks getting hammered. Insurance funds squeezed. Both sentiment and the physics of the economy tumbling at the same time.

 

US debt, well below a good many developed nations, was sustainable absent tax breaks and own goals. POTUS scored an own goal in overtime in the World Cup, completely clueless about the consequences of his silly actions. A Recession isn't going to help the deficit. Tax cuts are not going to help the deficit. ALienating foreigners who used to buy 30% of USTs is not going to help the deficit.

 

What POTUS wrought, as we shall see with time (and EXACTLY as I expected) is:

 

Recession if lucky, Depression if not

Soaring unemployment

Soaring deficit

Soaring inflation, or Stagflation (exacerbated by a falling dollar, or "The Mar-a-Lago Accord".

 

Hurt most will be MAGAs. Like him, they are also idiots, although some are now coming around and seeing the emperor has no clothes.

But even if it wasn't, American cattle ranchers are thrilled What's more, almost all Australian beef is grass feed. Very little US beef is grass fed. So it's filling a demand that is going unfilled by American cattle ranchers.

Mexico had a moribund economy until finally it's economy was on the verge of collapse. It was only with the drastic reductions in taiffs, that Mexico began to prosper.

I noticed you ignored the part about Australia actually running a trade deficit  with the US. So, according to Trump's way of thinking, that would justify Australia imposing a tariff on US goods.  The first few months of this year it did run a surplus but that reversal is due to the fact the importers were racing to bring in goods before tariffs were imposed.
