Well if you quote Trump, tariffs will result in gold for the citizens' bank accounts when in reality it will likely increase inflation, prices of almost everything, and any govt savings seen will go for tax cuts for the rich and this whole program may cause a recession.  Who is affected in a recession? those with less money while the rich are not affected at all.  Will this result in factories of 1800 or 1920 or 1960?  who in their right mind that has billions to sink into building a factory in the US in the next couple of years anyway would even consider such activity?  IMHO thisis the typical crap from the MAGA folks that believe every word from Trump.    But, I respect the fact that your opinion is different from mine and I do wish you luck and hope you and Trump are correct as it would allow me to have hope for the future of the US.  I did not like Biden ever, long before he was Pres, and I do not feel that Harris would even come close to being able to handle the job of president, and I also feel that Trump is way out of his league too.  At my age, I am just an impotent bystander watching idiots playing politics with my government.

Cut the deficits by cutting taxes?  Reagan, Bush, and Trump all promoted tax cuts as a way of actually decreasing deficits. How did that work out? I'll give you a hint: it didn't.  If he were serious about it, he would let his tax cuts lapse in addition to imposing tariffs. Instead, he's looking for a way to pay for extending his previous cuts and adding more..

 

Well, removing all illegals from our country will certainly increase inflation. Right wingers say that's a good thing because it will raise the wages of lower paid workers. Yet they are consistently opposed to raising the minimum wage which would have a much quicker and more beneficial affect

 

Increase our economy by making inputs more expensive? That's a winner.

I didn't say impose the tax policies of the 90's. I wrote impose the tax levels. There's a difference. That said, the bulk of the 90's taxes applied to today should work fine. What about economics has changed that would make raising the capital gains tax or income tax levels would need to be adjusted to present realities?

Well, if stuck, one could just do the opposite of what POTUS is doing. Can't hurt.

 

The economy was doing just fine under Biden, though lack of skills and talents in the modern economy did leave out lots of MAGAs. Sadly, they is nothing anyone can do for them. They are being selected out in a world of Darwinian Capitalism. Giving them pie-in-the-sky fantasies and telling them their failure is not their fault gets votes, but doesn't alter reality.

 

Those with marketable skills and talents saw their net worth soar during the Biden years, where the US experienced its best growth since the late 1990s under Clinton. Had the new POTUS done nothing, he could have reaped the rewards Biden handed him and ridden Biden's coattails, at worst into a soft landing. He blew it. Badly.

 

One thing that DOGE revealed---much to everyone's surprise---is that other than the Pentagon, the government was rather efficient, and there wasn't anywhere near as much waste, fraud and abuse as the average person thought. Sadly, defense was largely off the table, so the budget is stuck with massive cost overruns and delays produced by defense contractors.

 

The deficit wasn't even the problem so many love to claim it is, owing to the fact that the system is based on debt and suspension of disbelief. SO long as debt is serviced, it can continue for a long time. Yes, eventually a reset is required, but the US was decades away from it, running a debt-to-GDP ratio much better than most major nations such as the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Japan and others. Japan's debt-to-GDP dwarfs the US, but even its day of reckoning hasn't yet come. Spend within reason, pay interest, and keep the GDP level in mind, and the US could have continued into the 22nd Century.

 

As for trade, there has long been a kind of quid pro quo: the US runs a trade deficit in products, but foreigners then fund 30% of the deficit. The US does run a service surplus, so that mitigates much of the trade in products. Yes, jobs were shifted offshore, but offshore was merely a way station to oblivion, as technology replaced human labor. Steel plants built in the last decade or so employ maybe 3% of the people they did a few decades ago. Human labor has been obviated. That gets back to the MAGA forlorn: they simply have precious little to offer the modern economy.

 

As for Immigration, yes, there must be a policy, given many want to come live and work in the place the current POTUS claimed was 'carnage'. Funny the migrants had a far different view of Biden's economy. It wasn't carnage, but a chance to live the American Dream. Net net Americans benefited from the migrant flow, as lower paying jobs most Americans did not want were snapped up by migrants, legal and illegal. They worked farms, harvesting crops machinery cannot yet pick, working in meat plants that put food in our stores at affordable prices, or even doing jobs such as working at POTUS' country clubs and golf courses. Migrants did commit some crimes, but at a rate far below legal Americans.

 

While Dems have been a bit slow to act on Immigration, a workable bipartisan Bill was brought to Congress in early 2024, but the R candidate quashed it.

 

How about wars? The US did not start either of the two major conflicts, but certainly POTUS has no clue how to stop them. Rewarding the aggressor in Ukraine is certainly not it. POTUS is unaware of history, but Europe did not simply give in to Hitler, nor did the US give in to Japan. Similarly, the people of Ukraine did not want to be subjugated by a self-serving brutal tyrant. In the Middle East, sadly, Netanyahu has been given the green light to eliminate the Palestinians, most of whom are innocent. GAZA might have been ruled by Hamas, but why the killings in the West Bank and the continued settlements? That simply creates more "terrorists". Hamas now has more fighters than before October 2023. Nobody can kill an ideology, something the US should have learned in Vietnam and Afghanistan. IN any event, POTUS has no solution to either conflict.

 

None of the issues POTUS claimed "Only I can solve" are anywhere near being solved, and some are much worse for what he has done. The markets have tumbled, the US, and likely the world, is moving into a Recession or worse, relationships with allies have been shattered, the US is mistrusted and is losing influence by the minute, the deficit may well become a problem due to slashed tax revenues (staff cuts at IRS are expected to cut tax collection by $500 billion per year), the slowing economy, foreigners pulling back from funding the 30% of the deficit they have been funding, and the unnecessary and pointless tax cut POTUS wants to do in order to benefit the Donor Class.

 

So, in sum, a good start is to do the opposite of whatever POTUS wants to do. There is a reason he has been a failure for his entire life---save for daddy's money and loan co-signing---until Mark Burnett made up a fantasy. POTUS has one major talent, which is fooling the ignorant, the naive, the gullible and the forlorn. Slowly, even the most dimwitted MAGA is going to come to the realization the guy is a total fraud, willfully ignorant and incompetent, though for most MAGAs it will be too late. The damage will have been done.

 

So long as POTUS remains in power, and Congress fails to do its job, we will have a crashing market, Recession or Depression, and a deficit that will become an issue decades before it needed to be...and with no solution POTUS can muster.

 

These will be the worst of times, but at least the MAGA fantasy will be crushed and tossed into the dustbin, orcesspool, of history.

I already did give you a plan. A plan that revokes  Bush's and Trump's plans which consisted largely of concessions to the wealthy.
