Chiang Mai's Raft Rumpus: G-String Dancer Causes Outcry

A community day out on Chiang Mai's Ping River took an unexpected twist after a viral clip surfaced online, capturing a coyote dancer in a G-string dancing provocatively close to a male patron on a public raft. The footage, shared by a local influencer, sparked swift backlash online, with viewers labelling the performance as "vulgar," and "inappropriate for children."

The dancer, performing in plain sight of families and tourists cooling off nearby, has ignited discussion about appropriateness in public spaces. An online disclaimer followed, claiming the dancer's attire would be adjusted in future performances. Despite this, virtually everyone condemned the spectacle, noting the presence of children made it highly unsuitable.

District Chief Watchara Thepkan defended the events, citing official approval for community tourism. Contrarily, critics argue that such performances are unacceptable in a family locale. Investigations reveal the raft operators were unaware of who hired the dancer and claim tourists brought their own alcohol.

With authorities now probing the incident, locals report it was the first occasion such a performance graced the rafts, typically venues for mere background music. While coyote dancing hovers in a legal grey area, employing scantily-clad dancers on rafting trips seems a significant misstep, causing ripples across Thailand, reported The Thaiger.

It seems that coyote dancing in front of Thais, kids included, at schools, temples etc is OK as it is 'cultural'. Coyote dancing in front of foreigners is not apparently.

What a strange article.. We went to an ordination party of a monk and there played a band and there were a lot of coyote dancers with minimal clothing and a lot of kids.. I was in a school and I saw kids danced like coyote dancers too as boys as girls.. And now the netizens are upset??? Maybe they should first stop with all the copulating movements in dances on stages in public places and temples before comment

Where do you see coyote dancing in front of kids, in schools and temples? You are confusing coyote dancing with Mor Lam and Luk Thung.

I was going to say, Mor Lam dancers at "family-friendly" events wear little clothing and shake their butts in exactly this way.

I guess it becomes an issue when there's a chance of a wider audience seeing it.  🤷‍♂️

My God the poor children will be traumatised for life. Imagine seeing a female body. What a traumatic event.

The MiniCult (Ministry of Culture) will be along shortly to remind everyone about decorum during Songkhran.

And Prayut's dictum of three twerks only will be enforced.

Letting children watch coyote dancers moving provocatively in public isn't healthy or age-appropriate. Do you think it's okay ?

Pointed the blame away from themselves.   This is taught in Thai schools at the earliest age.   I didn’t do it.   But the knife is in your hand.  Somebody put it there.  But nobody else was in the room.  Then it must be a ghost.  ….. it wasn’t me!!!!!!!!!!

Why not return to the days when women walked bare-breasted in the villages.

Animals don't wear clothes. Why should humans; except when it's cold.

Bring back the menstruation huts.

Or just a few years ago when the Ministry of Culture celebrated the "soft power" of topless ladies on their home page...
