Still, you could have picked a lot worse places to live than Thailand.

And Thailand is, arguably, in many ways, a better place to settle than back in the US.

In other words, these old guys are maintaining views which support their decision to move to Asia, and to remain in Asia for many decades..

Their beliefs are not based on unbiased evaluation of the state of their home country.

 

THIS is the nature of Confirmation Bias.

This is also the dynamic behind Cognitive Dissonance.
