Why so many conspiracy theorists and what to do about them

Featured Replies

Would it be that easy? Every single mapping and projection tool was designed and implemented under a spherical, bipolar paradigm.

And liberty-taking on maps for visibility and convenience purposes is not an unprecedented thing, the Mercator map being the most blatant example, with Greenland appearing as large as Africa, Europe the same size as South America, etc.

It isn't uncommon at all to have gaps between reality and its representations.

Here the Gall-Peters projection of the surface of the Earth. That projection attempts to depict all areas with the correct sizes compared to each other.

It was designed specifically to represent a globe, based on a globe model, so this isn't unexpected.

There is no globe model. The Earth is roughly spherical. Ancient mariners knew this from experience. The flat earth guys are just plain wrong and no amount of nonsense arguments they come up with will prove otherwise. Eventually the flat earthers will go the way of the dodo and humankind will be better for it .

Yes there is and it only became established mid-19th century.

From a google search:

The realization that the Earth is a globe dates back to ancient Greek philosophers, emerging around the 5th century BC, with firm scientific consensus and circumference calculations achieved by the 3rd century BC. Pythagoras (6th c. BC) or Parmenides (5th c. BC) are often credited with the earliest suggestions, while Aristotle proved it in 350 BC via curved shadows.

Key points regarding the discovery of a spherical Earth:

  • Initial Ideas (5th–6th Century BC): Early Greek philosophers speculated on a spherical Earth, moving away from flat-disk theories.

  • Aristotle’s Evidence (c. 350 BC): Aristotle argued the Earth was a sphere, citing the circular shadow cast on the moon during lunar eclipses and the way stars changed altitude at different latitudes.

  • Measurement (c. 240 BC): Eratosthenes calculated the Earth's circumference with remarkable accuracy in 240 BC, cementing the concept scientifically.

  • Practical Confirmation: The concept was widely accepted by scholars during antiquity and the Middle Ages, long before it was directly proven by Ferdinand Magellan's circumnavigation (1519–1522).

Ancient Scholars Proved the Earth is Round

This does not refute my statement that it became established in the mid-19th century.

Try asking Gemini this:
"When did the globe model become the universal standard for mass public education?"

Projection.

You have clearly expressed the desire that I should die. I, on the other hand, would never even consider saying that to someone. But that's the internet for you, it turns a certain category of people into Super Virtual Warriors.

Why would I bother doing that when the facts are that before Christ people knew the world was a globe?

Nothing you can say, or play with words, can refute that

Get over it mate, the world is not flat.

Try something more modern like the JFK assassination, or the boring 'we never went to the moon nonsense'.

I asked before and haven't received an answer......why do the conspiracy theorists keep pushing their agenda?

Are they hoping to change people's beliefs, are they closet 7th Day Adventists. Seems that way in their approach.

Or are they really as stupid as they seem?

How is this relevant to what the science can prove? Not at all... just a bedtime story for the CT cult to indoctrinate their unfortunate offspring.

I don't embrace AI, in fact I am actively part of the anti-AI movement in the real world, and I regularly call out the posters who blatantly use it.

Except that it is never I who initiates flat Earth debates in these threads, it is always those who claim to abhor this topic, which is both amusing and a little absurd. Why devote so much time and energy to something you claim to be ridiculous? I personally can't stand Wokism and find it preposterous, well, I never take part in any discussion about it as the last thing I care about is what its proponents have to say.

When I do engage on the flat Earth (after beng prompted to), it is always in a light-hearted way and I try to keep things civil… which quickly becomes tricky as the opposing parties never fail to become visibly irritated and hostile, as you have just demonstrated: do you not find it absurd and a little problematic to advocate for the demise of a group of people for the sole reason that they have a differing view on the shape of the planet?

They are not CGI, they are real and observable. Here is the Don Mueang VOR-DME:

It is not sure yet whether Thailand is going to adopt the new eLORAN towers, but it is currently massively overhauling its ground-based network (TMCS: Thailand Modernization CNS/ATM System).

LORAN is for marine use, and it has to have line or sight between towers to work.

But science can "prove" anything, that's the beauty of it.

Just as it "proved" that Béchamp's terrain theory was invalid in favour of Pasteur's germ theory, coincidentally greenlighting the multi-billon vaccination industry…

Just as Einstein's theory of relativity "proved" that the heliocentric model was true after having been destroyed by the Michelson-Morley experiment.

More recently, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla was pretty straightforward about it when he coined the infamous phrase "moving at the speed of science", which basically meant "making sh*t up as we go along to fit the narrative".

Cell towers incessantly sprouting everywhere do that nicely. Of course, they are officially there to "assist satellite GPS signals". In fact, there is a large TPS (terrestrial positioning system) already widespread throughout the world, officially as "backup if the satellites break down"…

The Michelson-Morley experiment never destroyed anything and was shown to be false long before Einstein.
