A 36-year-old employee of a transport company in Bangkok, identified as Thanaphat, has been arrested for allegedly stealing Ai Khai amulets valued at 16 million baht. Trusted with the keys to the storage room, he reportedly exploited his access to commit the thefts.

The arrest took place at Thanaphat's residence in Soi Nawamin 111, Bueng Kum district, on April 20. Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom reported the recovery of a gold-plated Ai Khai statue and various medallions.

The case came to light on April 10 when Sirawit, a well-known amulet collector, notified the police of the missing items. Thanaphat, employed by a transportation company linked to Sirawit, allegedly used his access to break into the storage room multiple times between March 31 and April 10, stealing valuable amulets from Wat Chedi.

Investigations revealed evidence of forced entry, and CCTV footage pinpointed Thanaphat as the individual frequently entering the room. Following the discovery, a warrant was issued for his arrest. During interrogation, Thanaphat confessed to the thefts, admitting he had hidden some stolen items at a dormitory in Soi Nawamin 74-1-9-4, where police recovered additional amulets.

Thanaphat also admitted to selling some of the stolen goods to finance a car purchase and other high-value items. While he claimed the thefts began in April last year, police suspect he may have committed between 50 and 60 similar thefts due to his prolonged access to the storage facilities.

The suspect, along with recovered possessions, has been handed over to Min Buri police station, as investigations continue to fully unravel the extent of his illicit activities.
