I use ChatGPT, Gemini and Co_pilot. Ask the same question and get different answers.

I personally find Chat GPT is the best, but Co-Pilot is so friendly when it talks to you.

Gemini is a bit cautious as to it's answers.

Being similar in years to JT, grasping how to use AI is more challenging than it would have been when younger.

I use Perplexity, to ask questions, clarify grammar & translate things that are above my Thai ability. Also use it, to search for scientific developments.

 

What is the difference between GPT & Perplexity?

 

The subscription to ChatGPT is around 5k baht/year & I'm unable to decide if its necessary.

I might be totally wrong on this, but it is a fear that I have.

 

By downloading and using one of these AI models on one's phone to supposedly make life easier, (in this particular case I am thinking of Apple's AI),  doesn't it require access to apps, contacts, data etc in order to "assist"?

 

Don't AI companies suck up as much data as possible to allow their LLM's (Large Language Models) to learn and improve? So extracting and holding users data is part of the deal. No thanks.

 

This is why I have been resistant to using AI. I can see uses  in pharmaceutical testing, finance etc, but for the run of the mill Joe Public, not so much. Except maybe kids trying to cheat homework. 😀   just my opinion.

Depends on what you ask it, ans same with the others. They can always go deeper into a subject if you want. Co-Pilot usually finishes with a question.

I use AI and deep learning tools at work extensively for programming. I have been writing code for over 30 years in diverse fields. Since late last year I have not written a single line of code. Once you know how to interact with these models, there is no going back. I can code up in an hour now what used to take months. In probably less than a year from now all you will have to do to write an app is talk to your computer and explain what you want. We are using AI agents to automate genomics data analysis and results evaluation with users now describing the analyses they want performed in natural language rather than scripting something in a language like Python or R. Software engineering as a career is over.

 

At home I use multiple AI models for for music. I have a pipeline that can recognize guitar chord progressions, perform a complete harmonic and rhythmic analysis and suggest alternate song parts based on the input chord progression, a sort of AI composition assistant. There are tons of things you can do with AI that go way beyond asking for recipes, summarizing a document or testing for lefty/righty bias in a model's training data. That stuff is a sideshow.

 

I lead the data science group at our company and I would bet money that within a year or two my job can be automated away with AI. Tesla and other companies in the US and China are poised to begin selling extremely capable humanoid robots at affordable prices. Over time they will be automating away even blue collar jobs. 

Google just posted a job opening for a senior scientist to explore the societal implications of ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) and machine consciousness. If that does not spook you, then you simply are not paying attention. AI is the most significant development in our time. And while the tech is amazing and has incredible potential for good, what it will become is something we cannot predict. I am with Dr. Geoffrey Hinton on this: there is a very good chance this will not end well.

I use ChatGPT Plus, paid version, almost daily. It's saved me a lot of time and money. We had a legal thing going on and uploaded the legal docs and it analyzed it and provided an analysis and offered to write a letter in response which it did and worked great. And other legal matter advice which was helpful. 

 

How to deal with some people.

 

Offered a lot of advice on books on a particular matter/subject.

 

Used it for a therapy / impartial "person" to talk to when needed and get great feedback.

 

Asked it for travel plans and gave me all the info I needed. 

 

Way better than doing 10 searches to aggregate info.

 

Support drawing up info on Thailand matters.

I've tried CoPilot Pro and Gemini paid and it doesn't fit for me. ChatGPT has been far and above the best, particulary the paid version, which has saved me a lot of time and money over the subscription price. Worth trying free trials of these apps. ChatGPT doesn't have a free trial, though. 5000 baht is a bargain.

What has really surprised & also concerns me is the video creations.

A few months ago, they were not 100% real looking, now the characters are almost real.

 

What will happen in 6 months?

 

Perhaps a completely convincing video, looking like a credible news report of something very dangerous & seditious?

Getting older, I was perhaps a tad slow getting into using a smart phone than a kid would be, but of course it's more or less a necessity of modern survival these days.

But I'm feeling resistant to AI and it causes some anxiety like I'm falling behind.

I won't need it for work as I'm not working. If I was I would have gotten into it already.

But I feel a kind of bias against it. Like its better than us and going to make humans obsolete. 

I remember struggling to learn basic computer programming which was very hard for me and now realizing AI would "laugh" at that level. 

On the other hand I do realize it's inevitable and there are benefits to using it.

Not looking for a guide on how to get started in AI. That's easily available.

This topic is more about how people who have not embraced it yet (and maybe never will) are FEELING about such an obviously massively transformative technology.

Chat GPT is free for 'normal' users who do not need super fast replies, although I have never waited more than a few seconds in conversation thread. I find it quite sufficient for my needs.

Full Plus access is $20 a month = $240 a year = Bht 8000.
