That's been my philosophy for the last 2 1/2 years.  Every time I get extra cash, it's immediately invested.  And it stays that way, regardless.

People trying to time the market will likely lose.  And when you miss out on big up days, you tend to do much worse than if you just stayed invested in the first place.  Just look at the past week or so.  People thought the world was about to end. Many sold stocks to "be on the safe side."  And now, they're sitting there hoping they can get back in at some point.  Maybe they can, or maybe not.  And let's not forget the tax complications.

Everyone knows where the dollar is headed. The Fed has no real choice, regardless of their public pronouncements.

I took my gains when my stocks were riding high and bought CD's.  Now I can buy them back when the time is right. At my age I don't have enough time, or the patience, to play Trump's idiotic games.

I am well aware of the possible tax consequences.

sorta like Trump claiming that he will be nice to the Chinese and they will be nice to Trump - then the Boeing planes were refused by the Chinese.  Trump talking like his peopel are already talking with the Chinese.  But I see the Chinese are saying that there have not been any talks whatsoever on the tariffs yet.  Good thing Malaysia wants to buy those refused Boeing planes.  Also see VN wants to buy 50 Boeing planes so some good I guess for Boeing

On Thursday, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China told reporters they were “not familiar” with the reports of a stop to Boeing orders.

The Boeing plane story seems to be total BS

Whatever works for you.  Maybe you'll get lucky and be able to get back into the market at much lower levels.  That's always a distinct possibility.

As for having "enough time"?  I'm going to be 74 in a few short months, although I still feel fine and don't worry about it too much.  For all I know, I'll still be running around in 15 or 20 years. And if I'm not?  What does it matter?

Wall Street Journal Dunks On Trump In Stinging New Editorial

The Wall Street Journal said President Donald Trump is “finally listening to reality” as he caves on his tariff agenda and backs off his threats to try to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

“The MAGA media echo chamber that praised Mr. Trump’s tariffs as strategic genius looks foolish,” the newspaper’s editorial board wrote on Wednesday evening.

“With even U.S. allies facing Mr. Trump’s tariff assault, Beijing’s threat has resonated in a way that it never previously did,” the newspaper said. “U.S. diplomatic sway is ebbing.”

Complete nonsense of course. Trump never wanted to impose 145% tariffs for eternity, what he wanted was to renegotiate trade conditions for America. The tariffs have been a spectacular success in achieving this goal.

Equally with Powell, the aim was to incentivize Powell to lower interest rates more quickly, it was never on the cards that he would fire Powell, as Bessent advised Trump that this would create more problems.

it's really the WSJ that looks foolish making these transparent political claims. It used to be the case that a newspaper would have a clear political position, but we have seen this is no longer case, there are feminists in the Daily MAil now and liberals at the WSJ. It can be confusing, if you don't know this.

The world is ignoring the petulant child in the Oval Office.

Yes, I can see how Trump is being ignored completely, you never hear about him in the news. Or on Asean. And you certainly didn't start 989 threads about Trump yourself personally about how he's being ignored.

Though the last thread you started it was you who was pretty much ignored, wasn't it?

But Trump is being ignored. Sure.

If you believe China that they're not talking about tariffs with the US, maybe there's a bridge in Brooklyn I could sell you?

That's spot on. The media ignore any good news from Trump. The anti-Trump brigade on here will reply to this message something like this, so I'll save them the trouble: "hahaha, you idiot - there is no good news to report".

Well seems that the Malaysian airlines heard it too and told Boeing they would gladly take those planes that China refused - with the story of the planes, (more than one) the second one said with a photo of a plane taking off that the Chinese govt told their airlines not to follow through on the contract fo the purchase of those planes so they were then flying back to the US.  Seems to me either way, someone is lying and which of the two is more believeable?

In addition, BBC reported the story quoting the Boeing president that the first two planes had landed at the Boeing terminal after having been refused in China.  I kinda believe the BBC report is valid.

It doesn't seem that way to most of us who live in this universe

"Boeing's Chinese customers are refusing delivery of new planes built for them due to tariffs, the US planemaker has confirmed, as a third Boeing jet started returning to the US today.

"Due to the tariffs, many of our customers in China have indicated that they will not take delivery," CEO Kelly Ortberg said during a first quarter earnings call yesterday.

Ortberg said China was the only country where Boeing was facing this issue and the planemaker would redirect new jet supply to other customers eager for earlier deliveries due to a global shortage of new commercial planes."

Nowhere did I say he lies for Trump.  I said he lies like Trump.  Both have their own confusing reasons.

This is not confusing at all, Cam. The right wing WSJ is thrashing Trump and all you have are lame deflections. Nothing about that is confusing, buddy.

It's highly confusing to many because of course the WSJ was supposed to be right wing, but actually attacks a right wing politician, taking the side of China. However, once you realise that the Daily Mail is infested with feminists, the WSJ with liberals it becomes much less confusing. Like so many things today integrity is the victim of this climate of hot air, where Nietzsche predicted even the rarest flowers will flourish. As always he was right.
