The Illusion of Liberty: How the Anti-Woke Right Betrayed Its Own Principles

"Anti-woke" people don't care about anyone but themselves. "Woke, " according to the online Merriam-Webster dictionary, means: "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)". So it's "woke" people who care about you.

Not seen many of the woke far left caring about Trump. The exact opposite actually. Selective wokeness

You say this because you are not "woke."

You can support both sides of an argument. One side of an argument is not necessarily absolutely correct, and the other side wrong. If you believed that, you would not understand the existence of trans people. You'd think there are only two genders, and nothing in between.

Nope , you are wrong .

I do realise and understand that there are transgender people .

They can do whatever they want and wear whatever clothes they like and call themselves whoever they want to , as far as I m concerned .

I just don't think that they should be participating in Woman's sport .

They can do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't interfere with other people

I enjoyed the original post here, thinking it could have been written by an actual libertarian.  I read it thinking that it was unusual because it hammered both left-weenies and right-weenies for holding high the banner of constitutional rights and individual liberty only when they are in the backwaters of the power minority.  Both left and right tend to forget about such constitutional ideals when back in power.

What surprised me a bit at the end was that it was printed in the left-weenie New York Times.  I guess they are confessing that they are politically powerless at the moment, grasping for long-lost principles of the American Founders.  Will they uphold these principles when they someday regain Power?  Doubtful.  Both left and right worship power, and liberty ends up second-rate.

Seems to me that Trump is doing exactly what he promised in his manifesto. The vast majority of US citizens voted for him and his promises. It's refreshing to see a politician delivering on their pledges. Seems to me like political suicide for the Dems to be pursuing policies which the people are 80-20 against.

When Trump says he loves poor people, he does not mean he cares for them. He means he loves them voting for him, and swallowing his BS.

I don't care for Trump either. Does that make me woke far left?

There are exceptions to the pigeonholes people use.

Did I say it did? How about all the hate speech directed at Trump including calling him a nazi. Can those people be woke?

Trump's "vast majority" was 77 million votes to 75 million. There were 92 million eligible Americans who chose not to vote.

I doubt very much even his supporters voted for trade wars, inflation, and Americans becoming pariahs.

The hypocrisy and/or shallowness of the Woke brigade is breathtaking. Western societies have had enough, the powerful ideologues went too far. You don't have to be right wing to be have deep concerns about:

1. What is taught to children regarding sex. At what age do you folk think sexual orientation should be addressed at school? Let alone treating gender re-assignment as being quite normal, and nothing to tell your parents about.

Don't know how some of you can sleep at night.

2. Critical race theory - that's right THEORY became a mantra in Anglosphere. So most white people apparently suffer from unconscious racism. Taught again to kids. In Australia, Caucasion students apologizing in class for their supposed ancestors' behaviours. Lord knows what the Asian kids make of it. Crikey my Grandad was a Colonel in the White Russian army and my parents taught me to respect all races while some of their friends were gay.

3. Anti-colonialism proliferates in our universities. Monuments defaced. Slavery is portrayed as a European colonial initiative, ignoring thousands of years of slave trade along the Silk Road and widespread in Africa. Western societies led the banning of slavery, but most kids, even adolescents unaware.

Is it any wonder rates of adolescent depression in the West have soared to unprecedented levels.

4. DEI has reached ridiculous levels. Company policies, applying quotas and inane repetitive reporting. Who voted for this <deleted>? Well they're voting now. Many people wouldn't be aware of the silliness unless they work in corporations.

5. Speakers from anti-woke circles are banned, sometimes by governments or often from speaking at universities. Anti-woke celebrities cancelled. The cancel culture of the Woke brigade is abhorrent and devoid of respect for another's view - talk about free speech.

So often, trying to have a discussion around the subject with Woke folk is not possible as quickly degenerates into personal attacks (you're just racist, or denier of colonial injustices etc etc) rather than discussion of the issues. I tend to find these people naively well meaning, devoid of historical context and unaware of what the Humanities and Law Departments of universities have turned into. Hey, unis were left wing, as I was 50 years ago (still see myself as Centrist), but it's much more insidious now with the history distortions and contempt for capitalism.

Meanwhile, the workers were left behind amongst this righteous, divisive, unproductive, and ultimately corrosive chapter in the West, most prominent in English speaking countries. The rest of the world are either bemused or in some cases virulently opposed to the Woke movement, unless they want to join the anti-colonial bandwagon.

From the unanimous MAGA reactions, it seems the article is raising a quite relevant issue!

"The very fact that you disagree with me, proves that I am right!"

That isn't the definition of "woke" being used.  No wonder you have no idea what is going on.  🙄

The very fact that you are distorting what I wrote proves that you have nothing to say.

I am in no way distorting what you wrote.  The fact that you have to lie and pretend that I am, proves that you are wrong.

What is the definition of 'woke' being used, then? If there was consensus on the definition, there would be a better discussion.

You did! The fact that you are claiming you didn't proves you still have nothing to say.

The fact that you're bothered by this enough to respond multiple times, shows that what I wrote is important and relevant!
