but it isn't is it? - It's FOREIGNERS who are charged - you are just seeing from a racist-centric PoV.

If I live in Thailand and see this everyday is nothing what you write.

I lived and WORKED in industry and universities  Thailand for over 20 years - there isn't a year since 1994 I haven't been in the country  - but It still amazes be how utterly ignorant expats can be even after years of living in Thailand - they don't speak Thai, get there info off an Issan wife and fellow Chang drinkers - they never read a proper Thai history book, never read newspapers and have no idea how to use a search engine. THey fully interact with Thai working people on a daily basis or socialise with them. They just live in a little self-fed bubble of prejudice

I was last there in 2016, went to all the museums, hung out in Hyde park/Kensington gardens every day, no problems at all weather was nice, Starbucks had a half price offer every afternoon.

dual rpicing contributes nothing extra to the running of the National parks.

Middle income families have about the same tax burden as a mid-income family in the States.

It isn't just a simplistic matter of "money"  it is how Thailand intends to preserve it's natural resources and manage ths ee resources well - at prent they are totally failing in their duty. - Dule pricing has no benefits at all.

It's actually baked into the culture. Thais see signs in Thai listing dual prices at temples and gov run places like national parks, so they don't think it's a wrong thing to do, they think it's the correct thing to do. If they don't overcharge the foreigners they're letting the team down.

On one part tourists just pay it because it's cheap to them compared to their home country. In some cases these dumb foreigners just hand a 1000 THB note to a 7eleven cashier for something that's 200 THB and tell them to keep the change. I've actually seen it... 😂

It's thanks to these idiots that they continue.

The sad part is that expats are here on a salary that you can go by in Thailand and they get charged the same.

A work permit should be enough to filter them out. But sadly this is not always the case.

and no never been able to get the Thai price ever when offering my Thai driving licence or pink ID card.

So, you went through all the hoops and got yourself a pink ID card which they normally specifically ask for at the entrance of national parks when showing DL or WP... Then got refused on the ID card? What kind of bs is that? I hate Karens but that would make me turn into one😅

Kwilco, chill out. We are just giving our thoughts and feelings based on our own experiences. Why do you feel the need to retaliate against any and all of the comments here?

another example : the floating market in Pattaya used to be free 15 years ago for everybody, but a few years later, they wanted to charge me an entry fee because I was foreigner.. so, I simply did not go there anymore.. and boycotted this place.

As it's a complete con anyway, and always has been, even free is too much. You would have to pay me to go in....

What are you talking about?  who mentioned a work permit? and as if some upcountry ticket office seller would know what it meant, yes buddy have flashed the pink id card and before the prestige of owning one the drivers licence has been produced as well, you have farang eyes you pay farang price, you got to get off the grog before posting.

You cant have been here too long to not know every little office in the country makes up its own rules as it goes along not to mention the Wim of who ever your talking as mood can change moment to moment.

That would be a shame, because I support dual pricing.

If everyone had to pay the foreign price, the places would be almost empty, and they couldn't afford to maintain the resource to a standard that western tourists demand.  If everyone paid the Thai price, the places would be packed and still they couldn't afford to maintain the resource to a high standard.

It's about overhead absorption and incremental business.

That said, there have been a time or two that I passed on a National Park because I was only planning to drive through and check it out for a short time, so the 400 baht wasn't worth it.  But I've gladly paid that when I planned to spend some time. Same with some of the tourist traps in Bangkok itself.  Aquarium comes to mind.

Edit:  But they should give foreigner kids the Thai price.

That's one opinion.

I still remember the '90s when Disneyland gave me a resident discount.  Only available to local addresses on our driver's license.  So apparently some big companies disagree.

BTW, I got 2 trips to Disneyland on the same day.  My first and my last.  It's probably great if you have kids.  But not so much for a single guy like me.  Even with the resident discount.

Some still don't seem to comprehend rhe difference between local discounts and dual pricing which is a surcharge to a factor of TEN.
