A lot of this is due to their prices. A large fries is like $4.29 now. You used to be able to get really good deals if you used the app, but those have vanished. They no longer represent value. Price wise in the USA they have become si mil,ar to what they are in Thailand. Expensive for what it is. You may have it once in awhile if on the road or something but usually there are better choices for less money.

Another thing people hate about McDonald's is the kiosks. You end up basically ordering it yourself and standing there waiting in line, a lot of times it comes out wrong or really late. I saw a lady get bad mouthed by an employee for not clearing her table. It's like you actually work there going in there these days. It also has a prison like atmosphere. Back in the day they had playgrounds and you brought the kids because it was actually fun. Now it is starvation portions of over priced, Frankenfood.

Why would McDonald's care, as long as they get the rent and franchise fee?

Probably because they also sell the food to the franchisees.  And tightly control the operations as a condition of becoming a franchise.

You claim to have read the article your link connects to. Did you skip over this?

"Instead of making money by selling supplies to franchisees or demanding huge royalties…the McDonald’s Corporation became the landlord to its franchisees. They bought the properties and then leased them out – at large markups."

That's why I keep on asking this question: How do the franchisees manage to pay McDonald's? By renting parking spaces? In other words, where does the franchisees' income come from?

Easy 1/3 the price of a home.

So if you earned 10,000 a year, and a local house cost 30,000 ..... That's a living wage.

The average home costs about $1,500,000 in the San Fransisco area.    So.... McD's should pay a living wage of $500,000 to unskilled burger slingers?     And how much would said burger need to cost?

As per usual you fail to engage with the facts and instead offer facile characterizations. You've got nothing.

It's the property price that is wrong, not the wage.

Just across the bridge from SF, the countryside is empty, no lack of space, just government restrictions and taxes to keep the western worlds ponzi property scheme running, keeping the working class in debt servitude, and the banks rich.

Buy 50,000 Chinese modular homes, park them all near Muir woods/ Mill Valley, give them to the poor and homeless free. (2 bed pods, fully fitted out cost around $10,000)

SF house prices drop to $250,000 and everyone in the area can afford homes on normal wages again.

Elon or Jeff or Bill or Donny could do it with the spare change from their last share options.

Or the government could do it by not giving money to Ukraine, but like all the west foreigners first, citizens last

Obviously SF would not be able to charge their existing massive property taxes.

McDonald's reported its worst quarterly sales for the United States since the height of the pandemic in 2020, the latest restaurant chain to be affected by America's turbulent economic environment.

The burger giant reported U.S. same-store sales fell 3.6%, the largest three-month drop since Q2 2020, when they plunged 8.7%. Forecasts had been for a decline of just 1.7%.

"Consumers today are grappling with uncertainty," McDonald's Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said in a statement, as the chain cited lower guest counts.

Here's a screenshot of a McDonald's menu near me in California.

This is the reason why MickyD's revenue is dropping.  It was once a place a family of four could grab a quick & cheap meal.  Nowadays, a family making US$100,000 can no longer afford to eat there.

as are KFC ....    Thais consume more KFC than McDonalds.  1,000,000 pieces of chicken every few days.

I recently spent 5 weeks roaming the USA, never once did I eat at MD's. Think I hit In & out twice and an A&W once, the rest of my meals were at Asian style restaurants. Decent soups and seafood meals including tips were roughly the same money as the big name burger joints for a meal of processed whatever.

I'm surprised their sales haven't dropped more.

That looks even more expensive than Australia.

The only item I buy now from McDonalds in Australia is their McSmart meal.

You have choices but you can get two small cheeseburgers, small fries & small drink for 6.95 AUD (4.50USD)

A full Australian McDonalds menu here:

(1AUD = 65c US)

I can't remember last time I had anything from McD, as they really are too inconsistent (hot / cold).  You really do have to special order any sandwich if you want it to be hot.  Or pay attention to what is made and sitting in the rack.

Plus for Burger King, as Whoppers are reheated every time, and the charring puts them a level above.  Still need a Double Whopper to taste the meat though.

KFC's Zingers & Wing Zaps, can bit hit & miss, but still better than McD.  Can't recall last time I had any chain fast food, except Pizza Co, when having 2 for 1 promo.

The price is just too silly when compared to a meal at ma/pa restaurant, or even a nice cafe.  Had a lovely Lamb Massaman the other day at comfy cafe, and cheaper the most options at above mention chains.

https://aseannow.com/topic/1304478-what-did-you-have-for-breakfast/page/27/#findComment-19775356

Even cheaper was a Chicken Massaman from ma/pa shop, 60 baht for thigh, piece of tater & roti.  Got 4 take aways, for later at the house.  Both places more delicious.  No reason to eat at chains.

Maybe.  But until that's corrected, purchasing a home will be an elusive goal for a burger flipper.  And, bad news.  It'll never be feasible in most of the country for a burger flipper to buy a home.

Unless Mickey D burgers start selling for $50.

Absolutely brilliant news, this is fantastic for everybody involved, except shareholders and employees of McDonald's. The reality is that during covid fast food outlets started gouging like crazy, and the prices have gotten to the point where they are at about the same level as good diner food, and they just can't compete against good diner food. Not with the super low end junk they are serving.

My heart does not bleed for a nanosecond.

KFC has to be some of the worst fast food on the planet. I remember being in KL and rushing into a movie theater and my woman and I realized we were starving and we grabbed some KFC and brought it into the theater, and after about 10 minutes she turned to me and said what is this, and I said it's Fried Chicken she's said no it's not, it doesn't taste anything like chicken, if this is Fried Chicken it's the worst Fried Chicken I've ever had in my entire lifetime. And she's absolutely correct, it is such incredibly inferior junk. Not a value even for 20 baht.

Which bridge are you referring to?    Doesn't matter, the only empty countryside across any of them are rugged mountain/hill space and nature preserves. The rest are densely populated cities.

50,000 mobile homes (yeah, everyone will welcome them) will not cause even the slightest impact on home prices there.   Don't get me wrong, I can't understand the logic of house prices in that area either.
