Thai Restaurant Accuses Foreign Couple of Menu Theft for Copycat Plans

The most upsetting for me about this whole story is the impudence of the restaurant owners to watch their guests by CCTV cameras placed directly above their tables!

Do they also have microphones within, under or above the tables to listen to their customers private conversations?

No, @still kicking mentioned "crappy" Thai food. And everybody will agree. Nobody likes CRAPPY Thai food but delicious Thai food. But sometimes the chef gets a bad day.

He was saying that Thai foods is crappy and that no one wants to eat it

There have been cases where customers interfere with the food and claim against the restaurant , placing foreign objects in the food and then making a complaint about it

Well, as an American who enjoys many Thai dishes for more than half my life of 78 years, and having eaten Thai dishes in many Thai restaurants in the US, I am a witness to a multitude of Americans enjoying those Thai dishes too.  And, folks here get to eat those thai dishes as a much lower price than those prices charged in the US restaurants yet they are always crowded!

Now I live in a city of 2 million, all Thai restaurants are empty but Chinese or Indian restaurants are packed why is this?

Are you unable to come up with any theory?  There are several legitimate reasons why that could be true.

Why would AN posters be able to answer your context free question?

I think the cause of the problem is a little higher up 🧠

a) I would never eat Thai food in a department store with their practice of skinning the operators of those third-party food suppliers alive
b) taking photos is, unless explicitly forbidden, allowed
c) stealing a menu is a no-no but a bagatelle and going public all over the internet - being also accessed from outside Thailand - might backfire big time

Ridiculous; get the menu back; the food cannot be that exclusive that it became a state's secret - or am I wrong again?

Millions of people around the world: but you can stick to your burger n fries.

I have been trying that incredibly, inedible wierd food in the North East of the country. Fiercely spicy with a special breed of hot chilli peppers to dissolve the tripe etc. Tripe is one of the several stomach linings of a cow. Best served cold.

And Thais never steal others ideas? It is not unusual for Thai staff to learn everything about your business and then open an identical one in the same street. There are streets in Bangkok with several shops all selling the same thing.

I think you forgot to end the sentence (smile). "My thai wife of 22 years  only cooks Western food (as well)  because of my insufferable whining and commplaining

Overall,  Thai is the world's best cuisine in the world, as far as I'm concerned.  It's the second most thin I miss about Thailand.

Indonesian cuisine is a bit better.
