Once again, way too small fine. 2000 baht is a joke.  Make it 20,000 and they might think twice.

Ah.  So, when asked to confirm, you didn't want to admit that you were wrong, so you effectively said "yes (no)"?  Why not just say you were wrong and you meant most?

If you remove a council or police wheel clamp it is an offence. However , if it was clamped on private land and you remove it without damaging it and just leave it there there's nothing they can do. I've done that in the past a couple of times. Deflate the tyre which loosens it ,slide the wheel brace behind the loosened plate and remove the nuts and then the wheel. It'll easily then come off . Replace with the spare.

Sometimes tourists do not know how to go about paying the fines and getting the clamp removed especially  when their mode of transport can no longer help them. 
Trying to physically remove the clamp may be a lack of foresight and desperation. 
once my car was wheel clamped along sukhumvit soi 47 Bangkok . I have no idea how to go about it as there was no note or number to call. Finally I managed to ask local Thai for help. Got onto a motorbike taxi go to the relevant police station , paid the fines and (700tb) got onto the motorbike taxi again back to my car to wait for the police to unclamp . Waste of time indeed. So I believe the tourists would rather just pay the fine if they could rather than going thru the hassle of changing wheel. Just my feedback though.

Only time I've been clamped was in Tunisia in the 80s.

 

Parked the car one evening and left it - so far so good.

 

Next day leave the hotel and walk down the street towards car where (now lone) car is surrounded by kids and locals, all pointing and prancing around it and generally very amused. It is now the centre of attention in boring, Ramadan Sfax.

 

Turned out my auto had an even number at end of plate. The day before even numbers were allowed to park where I did (unbeknowing). But next day only odd numbers allowed to park this side of the road.

 

I gave one of the kids a few dinar and sent him to get the cops, who declamped me for I forget how much.

If i am not mistaken the fine for illegal parking is about 500 baht and doesnt require identifcation. Less than $20 usd. Porb Problem solved
