What about those birds at 4am.

And not to mention the roosters modified mufflers and over ventilated car mufflers. Heck if I wanted I can find as many things to complain about here as I can in my home town in the US of A, but as I never did there I have no reason to do so here. Some people just lack tolerance and/or lack the IQ to choose to live in an area that they can tolerate. There is an element of truth to the OP, the world is full of low IQ people, especially of those who believe that they are smarter than those around them.

I got ran out of a house which I really liked near the Mae Sa waterfall in Mae Rim because the temple would announce donation amounts as early as 5:30am (xxx donated xxx baht, repeated over and over again) and the village intercom would often go off in the 6am range proceeded by 10 minutes of crap distorted music.

This behavior is malicious, he knew he had to get it out early before people left for work so listening to him was mandatory.

I'm hyper paranoid after that. Before considering anywhere to live the intercom situation is the first thing I need to figure out.

A quick 5 minute excursion, armed with a ladder and a pair of side cutting pliers, in the early hours, sorted!

It was exactly the same in San Sai, 5.30 am, 6 am. They know no shame.

From now on I also check first thing if there are monastery speakers in the street.

Ah how cute, you think it doesn't happen back home 🤣

Never heard of people going door to door and offering cash for votes. Pretty sure you'd be reported immediately and it would be massive news in the campaign they couldn't recover from.

Like most of these "it happens back home too" remarks the scale and magnitude is being disregarded.

All villages have these so all you can do is hope to get lucky that they aren't being dicks about it and of course don't have the speaker right outside your door.

The one at my house in Samoeng is actually remarkably respectful in the morning and infrequent. The village near my wives work in Mae Jo is ok too and never on too early but it's far enough away. However her place of work actually blasts this theme song everyday at 7:45 or so in order to call in the workers who live in company supplied housing.

To whom are you referring? The USA?

This is about elections in Thailand of course, you would know if you were here at the moment because they don't let you ignore them.

500bht, easy money and a free shirt!

My missis has received 1500 bt so far for doing nothing, and so have most of the others in the village I imagine. There must be an enormous amount of money available for those that successfully get voted in as they must spend a fortune on their "campaigns"

what's the angle here? I assume once they get in they can skim off the top of road works and various other forms of corruption.

A lot of it on the AN forum. Whining and complaining about the predicament they placed themselves in and the OP along with this members other posts seems to be wanting to climb to the top of the complaining heap. Possible “My TGF drained me of everything because I never bothered to think ahead” or something like that in one of the OP’s future posts.

Not only are the constant trucks driving around for weeks with loud speakers annoying, they're cringe and embarrassing. If I yell at you loud enough will you vote for me? I still know nothing about you except you're willing to hire a truck to bother me. Where is the sense in this?

Reminds me of this scene but instead of great depression era southern USA it's happening in real life 2025 and even more moronic using less advanced technology.

Get yourself some earmuffs.

Since you're making that comparison, I don't see any tangible improvements in the USA either, judging by the outcomes.

This entire forum is a mix of complaining, feigned outrage and grandstanding so why are you here?

Go post on reddit or your facebook about how amazing Thailand is and get the thumbs up instead of wasting your time with us.

Seeing low IQ Democracy automatically leads me to the Useful Idiots who make up a large part of the Marxist Democrat Party in the United States.  I see on this board there are many of these people in Thailand too.

Well well well. Today is Sunday and the cleaning woman has arrived. She and my wife are talking about going to vote later so I ask her about the vote buying. Told me straight to my face all the candidates give money and she got 700 to vote for number 4.

In the US this would obviously never happen so instead of they just lie and promise free things later. They're both bribery technically but Thailand's is more blatant and less sophisticated.

I’m here pointing out the waste of self imposed negativity, lack of character and the low IQ of those that have no self control. This OP is just another rant from someone that has a lot of negative energy, an example of someone that, no matter where they end up, will always have a negative outlook on their surroundings. Try rerouting your thought process and not be so reactionary, you’ll be surprised at how much happier life can be.

I just saw a sign today that said "Resist vote buying" which does actually go on here.

It happens all the time here. But there isn't any guarantee that they will get the vote since the people take the money from each candidate. One candidate last year or so ago was smart, she gave a thousand baht and said if she won, she would give them another.

If you're an American, in 2020 remember the stimulus checks? Biden promised to increase  the stimulus checks to $2000 if he won and then never delivered. That was the closest I ever saw to vote buying and is pretty blatant bribery. Democrats continue to promise paying back student loans too which is bribery in my opinion.

The idea that Biden “never delivered” the $2,000 stimulus is simply wrong. He promised to add $1,400 to the $600 already sent under Trump—totaling $2,000—and that’s exactly what was delivered in early 2021. It wasn’t a bait and switch.

Same with student loan forgiveness. You can disagree with the policy, but calling it “bribery” ignores that both parties campaign on giving voters financial benefits—whether it’s debt relief, tax cuts, or subsidies. That’s how democratic politics works.

If people can’t tell the difference between facts, policy promises, and actual bribery, maybe the problem isn’t the politicians—it’s some of the voters in a low IQ democracy.

I don't think those checks went out. I remember getting the 600 but that was is it.

Giving voters financial benefits is indeed bribery. It's literally "if you vote for me I'll give you money". They politicians don't even have to pay out of pocket like the blatant corruption in Thailand, they give you tax payer money or run up debt.

Tax benefits? I guess that's like "we'll hurt you less if you vote for us", so like mafia tactics perhaps.

Getting a bit off topic. But most people vote for someone because they feel they will gain something, whether monetary or not. No taxes on overtime or tips I think, could be a form of bribery. Deregulating an industry could be another.

Could also be UK where there are individuals who vote for Farage.

Or worse still, the educationally subnormal demographic that voted for the UK’s politically illiterate present Government.
