Tensions have again escalated in the restive southern province after an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a military truck on the afternoon of 13 May, leaving two paramilitary rangers injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 13:00 near a U-turn in the Ban To Tita area, Yaring District, along Highway 42 between Pattani and Narathiwat. The vehicle, belonging to the 44th Ranger Regiment Task Force, sustained damage, with shattered side windows and other blast-related impacts.

Authorities from Yaring Police Station reported that the perpetrators remain unidentified, with no group yet claiming responsibility for the attack. The bombing took place just before the entrance to Border Patrol Police Camp 444, a known security checkpoint.

Eyewitnesses noted a police special operations unit vehicle from Su-ngai Padi Police Station was passing the scene at the time of the explosion. The officers’ pickup truck was damaged by shrapnel, though none of the personnel were harmed.

Investigators examined the scene for evidence as security forces tighten control in the area to prevent further incidents. The motive behind the bombing remains under investigation.
