Crime 23-Year-Old Woman Arrested Smuggling Ketamine Across Thai-Cambodian Border

Authorities at a joint border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province have arrested a 23-year-old Thai woman for attempting to smuggle ketamine across the Khlong Luek border crossing in Aranyaprathet district. At approximately 10:30 on 15 May, officers from the 1201st Ranger Company, operating under the 12th Ranger Regiment, in cooperation with the Burapha Task Force, were conducting routine inspections at Checkpoint A20 in the Khlong Luek area. Suspicious behaviour led officials to stop and search the woman, later identified as Miss Supakan Khampoot, from Suan Phueng district in Ratchaburi province. A female paramilitary officer, Corporal Papada Lomkratok, carried out a preliminary inspection and discovered a clear resealable plastic bag containing finely ground white powder concealed in the suspect’s black shoulder bag. Initial testing confirmed the substance to be ketamine, a category 2 narcotic. Miss Supakan stated during questioning that she had travelled to Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province, Cambodia, on 12 May to visit a friend. On 13 May, she reportedly visited a nightclub named “Thonglor” with a Thai female companion known only as “Pin,” who works as a PR hostess at the venue. According to Supakan, Pin used ketamine during their visit and allegedly placed the remaining quantity into Supakan’s bag without her knowledge. Supakan denied any drug use herself and claimed she was unaware of the drugs in her possession. She was returning to Ratchaburi via the Khlong Luek crossing when apprehended. However, a preliminary urine test conducted by authorities detected the presence of ketamine in Supakan’s system, contradicting her claim of non-use. Officials remain sceptical of Supakan’s account. Following her arrest and further questioning, the suspect and the seized evidence were handed over to investigators at Khlong Luek Police Station for legal proceedings. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about cross-border drug trafficking and the role of entertainment venues in the distribution and use of illicit substances. Nakhon Pathom Temple Abbot in Hot Water: 300 Million Baht Embezzlement Shock

The Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases launched the warrant today due to allegations of embezzling funds from the temple amounting to approximately THB 300 million. His reputation now hangs in the balance amid charges of corruption and misconduct. The call for arrest came from Pol Maj-Gen Prasong Chalermbhand, head of the Police Counter Corruption Division. Earlier on, the abbot had appeared at the Central Investigation Bureau, educating officials of his innocence, though such declarations met with sceptical ears. The notable clergy member, who also serves as the chief monk of Region 14, was joined by legal counsel and aides in his initiative to clear his name. This financial scandal involves public donations funneled through seven temple-affiliated bank accounts. Records indicate that starting in 2021, the abbot allegedly made several suspicious transactions, moving 1-2 million baht at a time into his private accounts via cash deposit machines. Such transactions tally up to at least THB 63 million being wired to a 26-year-old woman, allegedly connected to an online gambling racket. The woman, now also facing an arrest warrant, had ties with a gambling platform known as "LAGALAXY911". Her past dealings had previously led to her apprehension but averted further detention through bail, her movements monitored via an ankle device. Authorities are now reviving efforts to bring her into custody alongside the abbot. As investigations press on, the abbot's bank account reportedly had amassed over THB 500 million at one juncture. Phra Dhamvachiranuwat embarked on his spiritual path at a tender age and rose to his current position of influence. Despite his attempts to address the accusations, legal hurdles are mounting, casting a dark cloud over the religious community. Authorities remain steadfast, gathering all essential evidence to process the charges. Observers await the next development in this unfolding case, which touches not just a religious institution but also raises questions regarding trust and faith in societal pillars. Accident Swarm of Giant Bees Terrorises Man in Nonthaburi

A 54-year-old man in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi Province, suffered multiple stings from a swarm of giant bees in what he believes was a karma attack prompted by his removal of wood from a local spirit shrine. Mr. Sutin, a local motorcycle taxi driver and fruit orchard caretaker, was attacked three separate times by a relentless swarm of Apis dorsata, giant honey bees, on the afternoon of 14 May. The incident occurred in the Muang Thong Thani housing estate. Emergency services were alerted after Mr. Sutin, covered in bee stings, was found crouched on the pavement under a white mosquito net, surrounded by 70 to 100 large bees still circling him. Rescue personnel, dressed in protective gear, used insect spray and branches to drive the bees away before administering first aid. According to Mr. Sutin, the attack began after he collected scrap wood from a small shrine at the end of the street to use as firewood. “I didn’t ask permission from the shrine or the landowner,” he said, “and as I began chopping the wood and lighting the fire, I was suddenly attacked by a few bees, which then turned into a full swarm.” Despite trying to escape with a mosquito net over his body, the bees continued to pursue and sting him as he ran to the entrance of the street. A local resident, 65-year-old Mrs. Atcharawan, witnessed the bizarre sight and called rescue services. “I saw a man with a net over him sitting by the roadside, and hundreds of bees flying around him. Locals said he had been stung multiple times and even chased into a convenience store earlier.” Mr. Sutin reported stings to his head, torso, back, abdomen, and both arms. Paramedics removed several large bee stingers from his body. However, he refused to be taken to hospital, claiming previous bee attacks had built up his resistance and he suffered no allergic reaction or fever. This wasn’t the first time the bees attacked him. Mr. Sutin described three separate encounters throughout the afternoon, growing in intensity. He firmly believes the attacks were linked to his disturbance of sacred materials. “When I lit the fire with that wood, I smelled something, a strange scent, like something spiritual. That’s when the bees came.” Fearing another attack, Mr. Sutin said he would temporarily relocate from the orchard shelter where he lives, uncertain whether the swarm might return.
