A police pursuit in Phitsanulok ended in diasaster on the evening of 18 May, when a patrol motorcycle rider lost control and crashed into a central reservation, leaving one officer seriously injured and his colleague fatally wounded.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Noppadol Maingam, an investigator at Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station, received reports of the crash involving a police motorcycle near the Makro intersection on Borom Trailokkanat Road in Nai Mueang Subdistrict. Emergency response units, including rescue volunteers from the Prasat Boon Satarn Foundation and a medical team from Buddhachinaraj Hospital, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders discovered a heavily damaged brown Honda CBR motorcycle bearing a police registration number. Two police officers were found lying on the road, both with serious head injuries and multiple abrasions.

The rider was identified as Police Senior Sergeant Major Thitikorn Dechanan, while the pillion officer was Police Senior Sergeant Major Aphidet Yatha. Both officers were rendered unconscious by the impact. Emergency personnel provided first aid on site before transporting them to Buddhachinaraj Hospital.

Despite medical efforts, Sgt Maj Aphidet succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at the hospital. Sgt Maj Thitikorn remains in critical condition.

Initial investigations revealed that the officers were on routine patrol when they spotted a suspicious motorcycle. While attempting to give chase, their vehicle lost control and collided with the central reservation.

Senior police officials have visited the hospital to offer support to the officers’ families and pledged full assistance during this difficult time.

CCTV footage is currently being reviewed to identify the fleeing suspect. Authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the individual as swiftly as possible.
