MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Tuesday, May 20, that all 18 elevators along the EDSA busway are now fully operational, marking a significant improvement for commuters who previously struggled with often inoperative lifts. This development aims to make travel easier for passengers, particularly those with mobility challenges, who were previously forced to use stairs on the overpasses.

In their statement, the DOTr confirmed, "All in all, there are 18 elevators working in six separate stations of the busway to ease the travel of passengers." The stations with functional elevators include Monumento, Bagong Barrio, Balintawak, SM North, Philam, and Guadalupe.

However, it's important to note that the EDSA Busway consists of 23 stations, with 19 being median stops situated in the middle of the road. This setup necessitates overhead passage for commuter access. Currently, only six of these median stops are equipped with elevators, highlighting an ongoing need for accessibility improvements at other stations.

Transport Secretary Vince Dizon conducted an inspection of these elevators as part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to enhance public transportation convenience and accessibility. The government remains committed to ensuring that all necessary facilities are functioning to improve the overall commuting experience on one of Metro Manila's busiest thoroughfares.
