Hello everyone,

I am currently in Thailand with a non-immigrant ED visa, but since my studies at my university end at the end of May, I need to cancel this visa.

I already got all required documents from my uni and now I would like to book an appointment, but I am not sure which kind of appointment I should choose on the website.

These are the options:

  • Government Complex Chaengwattana Immigration
    – Extension visa for companies
    – 90 day report (TM 47)
    – Extension for Thai elite member study/teacher/professor/instructor/expert or educational staff
    – Extension visa for visiting spouse/Thai children or in case of Thai husband/Thai wife
    – Extension visa for retirement
    – Extension for tourist visa (TR) issued by the Thai embassy or consulate
    – Registration of foreigners
    – Permanent residence
    – Approval
    – Re-entry
    – Transfer Visa / Business Visa / Cancellation Visa
    – Issuance of visa and change of visa type

Does anyone have an idea which is the right one for me?

Thanks in advance!

You cannot make an appointment to cancel an extension,

You go out to the main immigration office at the government complex on Chaengwattana road,

get a queue for section N then wait it out and cancel your extension .

You can do it up to 2 weeks before the termination date on your paperwork from the school, immigrations will cancel the extension and give you a stamp until the termination of study date on the paperwork

Why waste time to go the immigration office to cancel it? Just leave the country prior the valid date of your extension and it will be automatically canceled. Easy

Unless you want to do a border bounce, then yes, it should be canceled at the immigration office prior to do a border bounce

Unfortunately not.  Failure to cancel your ED or Work (B) Extension before leaving can result in future problems trying to get a new extension at immigration.  One can be fined up to 20K Baht, as if they had overstayed, even though they were not in the country during that time.

Some folks have reported "getting away with" a new extension after failing to adhere to this policy, but others have reported problems.  Easier to just do it and be on the safe-side.

But there is any issues if you don't cancel an extension based upon marriage. You can get other type of extension, no problem

Except this post isn't about marriage extensions.  It's about education extensions, which you DO have to cancel.

Yes - same with retirement - can just leave before the "permitted until" date - no "cancellation" is needed.
