knowing how people love to put down trump and his admin I fail to see how this is sticking it to him. Like any other gvt they just had to submit a proposal, which they didn't. Probably cos they didnt feel like it was worth it to them...  hardly time to take out the party hat

The United States did not submit a proposal for Greenland's anorthosite mining license due to a combination of factors:

  1. Lack of Formal Investment Proposals: Despite expressed interest, the U.S. did not present concrete investment proposals. Greenland's Minister of Mineral Resources, Naaja Nathanielsen, noted that while U.S. business delegates visited, no formal dialogue or direct investments materialized. In contrast, European partners, including the EU and Denmark, progressed more smoothly in their collaborations. Reuters+3@EconomicTimes+3spotmedia.ro+3

  2. Regulatory and Legal Challenges: Greenland's mining legislation does not align with the traditional American approach of land acquisition and resource exploitation. The land belongs to the state, and exploitation licenses are temporary and require significant investment to maintain. This legal framework may have deterred U.S. investors accustomed to different systems. spotmedia.ro

  3. Perceived Political Instability: Former President Donald Trump's proposition to purchase Greenland introduced concerns about political stability, potentially making the region less attractive to investors. Greenland's mining minister warned that such rhetoric could harm its appeal to international investors. Financial Times+1Financial Times+1

  4. Infrastructure and Operational Challenges: Greenland's harsh climate, high operational costs, and lack of infrastructure pose significant challenges to mining operations. These factors may have contributed to the U.S.'s hesitation to invest. IEEE Spectrum+1Financial Times+1

In summary, while the U.S. showed interest in Greenland's resources, the absence of formal proposals, coupled with legal, political, and infrastructural challenges, led to the lack of American involvement in the anorthosite mining project.

Some of your arguments,   do not line up with actual US experience or practice.

  1. Lack of Formal Investment Proposals: If the US did not present concrete investment proposals, that is a reflection of the viability of the Trump demand to take over Greenland. Trump was all bluster and empty promises. The Europeans were less talk and more action.

  2. Regulatory and Legal Challenges: US mining company's would not be deterred by the state control of mineral rights in  Greenland.  In Canada, like Greenland, the "state" owns mineral rights. This has not stopped US mining and  energy companies from dominating the  industry and owning/operating multiple mining operations.  The US government as the largest  land owner in the USA  is also one of the largest mineral rights holders in the the USA. Energy and mining companies lease land for their activity. MN owns 1/4 of all mineral rights in the state, and the state has a sizeable mining sector.

  3. Perceived Political Instability:  Greenland is a stable democracy. Foreign investors in Greenland are not scared by  the US aggression.

  4. Infrastructure and Operational Challenges:  Greenland's climate is harsher but so too are the Alaskan and Canada's northern climate. US development projects were already underway long before trump. There are already two  mines in operation now . New development  was already underway.  In 2022 80 Mile Plc  and mineral exploration company KoBold Metals, backed by billionaires including Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, are searching  for critical materials used in electric vehicles. Anglo American mining has had a footprint in Greenland for years as it searches for  minerals.

USA was all talk.

DT seems to have dropped the Greenland diversion.  I think that after DJr made that visit he reported to dad that the place isn't green at all, it's all lie.

Funny.  Until Trump, all those beautiful resources on Greenland were locked up, off the world market.

Now, they'll be flowing.  That'll bring down the market price and lead to an alternative source (other than political adversaries).

He wins even when he loses.

Good on Greenland for demonstrating such wisdom. European nations are a far more reliable ally. They all know Trump is highly unstable and undependable.

Big Don. Making America less relevant by the day.
