A post-birthday celebration quickly turned violent for a group of teenagers in Samut Prakan, resulting in the injury of 18-year-old Warathep. The incident took place early this morning, May 29, at 2.30am near a shop on Kusang-Pracha Uthit Road in the Phra Samut Chedi district, escalating into a clash involving gunfire and a knife attack.

Police Colonel Pojanakorn Ganjina and his team from the Phra Samut Chedi Police Station, together with emergency services, responded to reports of the violent disturbance. Warathep was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to his right thigh and a knife-cut wound on his back. Police discovered bullets in his jeans, along with evidence such as shattered beer bottles, bullet casings, a machete, and a gun holder at the scene.

According to 27-year-old eyewitness Tanwa, the altercation began between two groups of teenagers, each comprising five to six individuals. Amidst the argument, gunshots rang out, prompting Tanwa and others to seek refuge inside a nearby shop. Following the chaos, the groups had fled, and Warathep was found injured behind the shop.

The investigation led to the apprehension of two 16-year-olds, Phong and Chat, who were involved in the conflict. Phong revealed that Warathep's birthday celebration with friends preceded the violence. The group departed on motorcycles to escort Warathep’s girlfriend home, but a change of plans due to rain led them to encounter hostility from a black pickup truck on Kusang-Pracha Uthit Road.

The confrontation with the pickup's occupants escalated into gunfire, forcing Chat and Warathep to return fire, despite having a malfunctioning gun. Subsequently, another group of teenagers from a nearby shop joined the fray, attacking Chat and Warathep. Phong managed an escape on his motorcycle, only discovering Warathep’s grave condition later.

The police continue to investigate by interviewing those involved, reviewing witness accounts, and analysing CCTV footage to identify all parties in the altercation. The incident highlights the prevalence of teen violence, underscoring the need for interventions to prevent such dangerous situations in the future.
