recommend a 500W dehumidifier ?

Which dehumidifier models of approx. 500W are adequate for permanent long term use, especially in regard to reliability ?

500W seems ok for the area I want to dry.

Drain pipe exhaust is necessary and I would like it to have a humidity sensor so it can switch on/off  by itself.

What is your experience ?

You are better advised to look for the litres per day specification, though it will never actually achieve it, mine is rated at 45 litres per day and 700w

you are right - I found one 250W that does 30l per day.

however, the reliability question remains.

Mine is classed as industrial or commercial, it wasn’t cheap in any form however it just runs and has done so for the last few years and I expect it to continue to do so. Price is your best guide.

though I bought it a number of years ago and it was not the easiest to find even then

oh yeah, I don't think I will get a chance to buy that one.

thank you for posting the info anyway !

Since there is little other info, I will try to go with that one:

LG PuriCare MD19GQGA1.ATH

Apparently, it has very low wattage compared with others but still yields 30l/day.

While there are domestic and industrial dehumidifiers, that one is clearly a domestic version and as such I have no idea of it’s expected lifetime

The price and design clearly put it into the domestic category.

Mine is clearly in the industrial sector and built like a tank it will just keep on running as it has for the last several years

I have been unable to find a power consumption figure for your unit. However due to physics and the fact that the technology is well mature the only way it can use less power is if it is extracting less water. As an inverter unit it doesn’t have to run at maximum extraction. Mine does and is sized so that it needs to run at full power so inverter technology is irrelevant in my case as it is extracting from a 520 cubic metre space

LG is a reputable supplier but it’s built to a price

Do run it 24/7 and see how it responds, I will be interested in the results.

FWIW I did find mineIMG_2630.jpeg.d6e4d3eb98ac66006437563ac40d5b6f.jpeg

I don't have a specific brand recommendation, but I searched Lazada and they have some industrial sized units for weed grows.  Kinda spendy, but you only live once.  (Also, in fairness, some of them are butt ugly and look like they'd be pretty noisy.)  Search Lazada for dehumidifier and sort by descending price.

My recommendation is that you buy more unit than you think you need and let it loaf instead of being on too many hours in the day.  I'm not sure a 500W unit will keep a tropical room dry.  I went through a couple of smaller units at the beach in Texas and they ran all day and still didn't do the job.  I ended up with a 60 or 75 L/day unit and it worked okay for around 1000 Sq ft ground floor where technically nobody was allowed to live because of hurricane laws.  So the A/C wasn't run when no guests were staying there.  I put the smaller ones in the bedrooms upstairs which were smaller and less damp because of A/C.

@impulse it’s rather difficult to know much with little data, for example what was your desired humidity level, what was the starting level, what was the cubic capacity of the room, how well sealed is it, etc, etc.

in my case I have a 47l/day unit the room capacity is around 18,000 ft3 the temperature will be around 27C~30C, the required humidity under 70% and the outside humidity at about 35C is over 80%

My unit can drop the humidity enough, running for about 10 hours overnight so it isn’t usually needed during the day.

So dry enough for my needs. If you want sub 50% and sub 25C then you would need double or considerably more.

if you are buying an inverter, many are today, then well over capacity doesn’t hurt and it will probably be quieter.
