this one...

So you have a Non O visa, based on marriage.

Then yes immigration would make you obtain the first extension to be based on marriage.

Pity as you have the funds in place for extension based on retirement.

Suggest you contact an agent after arrival or now using their contact options.

In previous post I included link to post from Tod Daniels. Lists contact details for Pattaya agents.

You could start with Maneerat.

Alternatively enter on the e-Visa and be stamped in for 90 days.

For return (next trip) get a new Non O retirement.

Be aware that a TDL can be renewed up to one year after expiry.

If you have an extension from a Non O you can obtain a 5yr TDL.

Those doing renew with tourist status (eg visa exempt entry) will only receive 2 year TDL.

Mine expired in March and I will renew in July when I get back from Europe.

Because a DL runs to your birthday many people time renewal to get virtually 6 years

Exactly what I did for most recent renewal.

Let it expire and waited month or 2 till after next birthday and renewed = 6 yr.

Entering on Non-O VISA based on marriage, the only question is whether or not an agent can get your FIRST extension from a Non-O VISA based on "marriage to a Thai" for "reason of retirement" or not.

They can definitely get it done early - do not have to wait until the last 30 or 45 days of the 90-days you will get upon entry.

Exactly. In fact they can obtain extension up to 3 months early.

Handy bonus.

because i will be in and out for a couple of years i still need a non-o to get 5 years... and because of school holidays not being long enough i wont have the time to get visa and this is why my only option is an agent.

PS

with non-o extension do I need insurance if I have multi-entry?

or is that just non-OA?

This is not being pedantic..

A Non O gives you a 90 day stamp.

It's a single entry visa..

Best to think of it as dead and gone after the stamp is in passport.

At that point you have a permission of stay.

That can be extended every year.

You are NOT extending the visa.

A reentry permit simple allows you to exit  and reenter Thailand.

"Protects" Your permission of stay.

The Non O and subsequent extensions do NOT require insurance.

A Non O-A is different animal.

It's a visa valid for 12 months and is multi entry..

It requires insurance and extensions from it also require insurance..
