Hi

 

Looking for some expert info here on required documents for a particular extension.

 

At Chiang Mai immigration, if that makes any difference.

 

I have a work permit/non B extension (working for a school)

 

Quite recently got my foreign wife a Non O (visiting spouse/90 days), which we would like to extend in line with my current permit of stay (until years end)

 

Obviously I expect to need the basics ;passport, photo, TM30, application form

 

Plus documents relating to my employment; contract, school registration, work permit, my passport, my stamps, my visa page etc

 

On top of that, proof of relationship, so that's a marriage certificate, stamped by our embassy (naturally)

 

Anything else I need to bring along for this? I did pop in and ask the information counter, but they just said 'Ask you employer, they will know' (...they do not)

 

Most friends end up doing 3-4 trips to immigration for this kind of thing, I would prefer to have it done in 1-2.

 

Just to reiterate we are both foreign, this is NOT relating to foreigner married to a Thai. This is a foreigner married to a foreigner.

This post is of little assistance however the one important thing is that wife entered on a Non O so yes what you outlined is certainly possible.

 

Also the fact that you are on a Non B (extension) she can piggyback on your extension.

Pity CM were not bit more helpful but that's predictable. 

 

Hopefully someone with first hand experience can post.

I dare to assume that the info desk meant all documents will relate to my employer.

 

But I have heard (grapevine) another friend mention being asked for some of the weird things that Thai + Farang couples have to provide

I was in the same position, but back in 2016.  It was all straightforward (my wife had a non-O from London) but it needed a lot of documentation from my employer; pretty much all the same information/documents needed for my Extension.  We did it at Chaengwattana, and have extended again every year since then, plus my non-Thai son.  Our UK marriage certificate had to be legalised in the UK, then stamped by the Thai Embassy in London.  We got this done while we were in the UK.

Thanks for this. I was expecting the company documents side of things to be basically everything I took for my own extension.

 

When you extend each year, are you able to go and do it together at the same desk?

Yes, all 3 are processed together.  Takes a while and almost impossible to book 3 back-to-back appointments at CW, so is usually a very long day.  Last time we got there at 8.00am and were not finished until 3pm!

Jomtien, not CM, but you need a copy of your marriage certificate with an apostille from the Home Office in UK, certified by the Thai enbassy in London. It's a huge rigmarole over nothing, Google will tell you how to do, all it is is a paper saying the signature of the person who signed your certificate all those years ago is the signature of somebody (probably retired or dead!), and the signature of the person who signed the apostille is the signature of somebody. Total costs about £120. Then you have to take it to the Dept. of Foreign Affairs to get it "legalised"

The first time when we converted from 2X retirement to 1X retirement + 1X follower, we did not have the apostille, and it was going to take too long to get it (about 6 weeks). 7,000baht under the table fixed it.

As stated above, you probably need the marriage cerificate legalized in the uk.
It was very hard to do ten years ago when i considered it first, but a bit easier now that i needed it..
I have just done it.
You can now order legalization by the Uk FCDO office and that saves a lot of the earlier problems.
Go to https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised

it explains what you need to do.
You can now pay online and order that docs are sent to an address.
You must send original copies of cert to FCDO in UK.
Obviously, be careful how you send it if its the original.
I had a few original copies from the uk registrar, so i did not have to send the main original.

Once UK legalized, it needs to go to the Thai Embassy in London for Thai legalisation.
I was visiting the uk when I did this, so I got the Uk legalisation sent to a friend near london, picked it up and went to THai embassy walk in morning ( no appointment - took 15 minutes). They said it takes 3 days. I paid and gave them a stamped adrressed envelope registered first class and received it in Manchester 4 days later.

If you are not in Uk then you need somebody there to do processing.

I am now getting a translation into thai done here. Its normally necessary if married to a thai..
I am married to a thai and family registration in the amphur they normally want the translation so that they can enter into their system.
Immigration may accept the documents in english, but check with them. 
For full legalisation here in Thailand the translation is required and it needs to be certified by MFA.

A good summary.  I did the same thing, although the Legalisation Office forwarded the document to the Thai Embassy for me (I provided a prepaid envelope).  The process took around 12 days.

Yes, very good to point out.

It will make it easier for people who are based here and do not have to go to uk.

Can you confirm what you did to pay the thai embassy and for them to post. That would help others.

I noted before that was an issue, that would be solved by having somebody in the uk to get the documents each time.

I presume that to pay the thai embassy you could include a cheque, if they accept it. Or cash in notes. Or do they provide for payment by telephone.

For the prepaid envelope to the thai embassy, how did you send that to them. If its a UK prepaid it would need to be bought in UK. Can you pay and they post it.

Actually I was in Thailand, but you're right, they posted it to my sister's address in UK and then she forwarded it to me in Thaialnd.

If I remember rightly, the Thai Embassy wanted payment by a UK postal order!  This was in 2016, so not even sure they still exist.  Hopefully, there are more payment options now.

Thanks for clarifying.

I perhaps should have asked at the thai embassy whether there are other methods of payment, etc.

However, if people want to check, then try sending an email 

I had some queries and could not get through by telephone. Always busy.

I sent an email with my queries and got a response within a day. All queries well answered clearly. Thats was very good.
