In my case it's only been when I've needed to renew my (British) passport renewal in person. As soon as I've done the necessary business it was back on the road home straight away since the less time I had to spend in that ghastly place the better. 

 

And next time I'm due to renew my passport (in 2032), I'll probably use an agent. So, fingers firmly crossed, I might never need to set foot in that particular dump ever again!😝

Chiang Rai is walkable in the centre. Pleasant city just a bit quiet. Rooms prices are cheap. The roads to the north very nice driving.

I liked Chian Rai okay, I could live there. I like the county, but my wife's a city girl, and her family is in Bangkok.

Maybe it's just the fact that I'm no longer 25, but once upon a time, I loved big cities. And back then I'm sure I would have loved Bangkok. Today?  I wouldn't live there. I thought about it, but came to my senses. I have no reason whatsoever to be there, long term.  

 

For me, an occasional week or month in Bangkok would be enough.  Have fun for a while and then back to a tranquil beach neighborhood.

About 25 years. First twenty working in Prachinburi, last five retired in Bangkok.

Greater Bangkok is a big place and has swallowed up Nonthaburi etc.

 

There are parts I dislike , the touristy parts where the low life and scammers are drawn and then there are places that are normal , cheaper and interesting. 

 

The hotel we use is brand new , soft beds , smart TV with Netflix,  great on-site food and no tourists and good value at 800 baht.  Avoid Sukhumvit like the plague these days.

I lived there for around 20 years. Have lots of employed mates with whom I can hang out. Taxis are OK but you have to know roughly where you are going and flag down a taxi going in the correct direction. 

I am not a foodie just a regular guy so Michelin stars don't concern me. 

I had a great time there living in a small street shophouse. 7-Eleven, BigC Miini, a bar and a restaurant on the street. Running with mates Mon, Wed, Saturday. Hung over on the other days.

Yes BTS is not as good as it used to be. Too crowded now.

I love Bangkok and hua-hin.Havent been in Pattaya for 13 years.Lived in surin before and that was wery boring.

At 8 pm the whole village get quiet.Never ever again at the countryside.Hapoy single enjoying life as a free man

The big city vibe mixed with the casual bar life, real bars not shack types as Pattaya was 28 years ago. Yes there were a few like that in BKK then but not many.
