Bangla Road seems to be farang punch-up central nowadays, doesn't it? It's putting Pattaya to shame! Also the quality/friendliness of 'bar girls' in those places has been slipping for years - which could be a contributing factor to hostilities. I guess farang visitors don't shop the internet for more quality female companionship before arriving, so they get drunk and wonder into the sh!tshows of the notorious Bangla and Walking Street. I wonder how many teeth are swept up each morning off the pavement of those places. Dentists in Pattaya and Phuket must do a roaring business.

You don't learn a lesson by being hospitalized over a slap, or dying for that matter. Anyone who would slap a woman will do it again and again. As far as you being there, you also could have beaten down by the Israelis. One on one isn't the same as what this story tells. Assuming doesn't fly.

 I would disagree that foreigners are "generally not liked and only tolerated."  My has experience has been that foreigners who treat Thai people and their culture with respect are indeed liked.   Those foreigners who don't respect or understand Thailand and its people are nevertheless tolerated because they represent an important source of jobs and income.  It is the "flaming assh*le" foreigners who insult, cheat or abuse Thais that are disliked and sometimes catch a kicking.

 

The big problem is that many foreigners don't realize how badly they are behaving in the eyes of Thais.  I witnessed this myself while living in Pattaya.  Some farang in particular believe they are treating Thais firmly but fairly, while the Thais regard them as creeps.  This is especially true about the approach some farang take with bar girls.  Cheap Charlies are seen as heroes and the smartest of the smart in certain farang circles, but are mostly despised by Thais.

Ok, just to end the speculation that a few members are claiming to have actually read the comments and are falsely claiming that there is no references to Israelis or Jews here is a small example which proves it.

I think that sadly it is a matter of time before the visa exempt period will be reduced back to 30 days. We know that they have been thinking about this for some time. And, with incidents like this one, it will probably happen. I still hope it won't.

 

I am puzzled and saddened that some posters have praised the beating of the men. Those tourists may have behaved terribly, but you don't kick the head of someone, man. It could result in death or serious injury.

 

Such incidents also cause an increase in nationalist feelings and attitudes, which is never a good thing. I am saying this regardless of the origin country of nationalism.
