Did they actually confirm you will get the current 2025/26 rate and not the rate effective when you became eligible?  I have read previously that waiting was of no benefit if you are already out of the country when eligible.

No they didn't. Just that I would get the increase from delaying payout last year. Although my birthday has just past, and I haven't yet heard from them regarding buying years, I don't expect  the pension payout to start for a month or two due to admin and how busy they must be.

Would be nice to get it though.

I thought the average life expentancy in the UK was now around 83. So presumably people survive for 17 years on their State Pension. At 72 i have already claimed mine for 7 years. The loss was not that great when inflation was low in the first 5 years, @ £1000, but greater now inflation has risen.

Most of my pals (and my parents) died between age 50 and age 70.

If average life expectancy was really 83 (half died before, and half died after), where are all the half over 83 living?

Cos I sure as poop ain't seeing them ............

And if you take into consideration all the people that died age 50, there should be just as many at age 116 (or maybe 3x more living to 95).

What they're saying is 83, but what I'm seeing is more like 67!

DWP will not contact you, nor will they initiate your pension. You have to claim it, as Charlie said above.

That is not correct! From the very same website that you referred to:

'If you’re applying online, you’ll also need the invitation code from the letter about getting your State Pension.

If you have not received an invitation letter but you are within 3 months of reaching your State Pension age, you can request an invitation code'.

Wow, a UK address is definitely desirable!

It looks like I'm not going to get a pension that isn't frozen otherwise!

I suppose I could register my tax affairs to a UK address but maintain the submission to HMRC as non-resident on the SA109 Residence and remittance basis if DWP check HMRC addresses but not contents of HMRC tax return submissions. Is that likely to work?

I was forced to register my address here in Thailand on the UK electoral register this year to pass the ID checks for a private pension that ran an electronic check.

Does anyone know whether a name on the electoral registry overseas could cause a failure on an ID check for opening for example a new savings account? I have the same UK address with Tescos to apply from, want to apply for their next annual saver account but this year have the electoral register abroad (where I wasn't registered last year) for example.

My SP starts in a few years so the electoral register will expire by then and I can get a plan underway for the SP.

Its all wrong for payment to be obfuscated when there was no obfuscation in paying NIC each month for years.

Look forward to views! Many thanks all.

The Thai postal service where I live is great. The staff at the post office and the postmen all know me. I didn't have an alternate UK address that could be used to receive snail mail, so it was Hobson's choice for me.

Then it must be the local sorting office.  Here is a recent example of Bang Lamung's crapness.  My GF successfully applied for a Schengen Visa; it was posted back to her by the Spanish Embassy as she had paid for Courier delivery.  Despite this; despite the address being in Thai, the package never arrived.  A journey to the sorting office showed that they had written the wrong delivery address.  The courier merely tossed it into a garden without securing a signature.  48 hours of anxiety was finally ended when the house owner noticed it in his garden & phoned GF's number on the front of the package.

Not required, you could have just entered your last UK address and used that to pass the pension commencement 'electronic ID check', which is what I did. The ID check is just a UK credit score check, nothing more, and will probably work for any UK address at which you last had a UK bank account registered. Probably won't work if you've given your bank an overseas address though, best not to tell anyone where you are, it's not their business.

I've been using my last UK address for the past 16 years, even though the property has changed hands at least 2x in that period, still works, but I lose a few points for not being on the electoral register.

I can even do it myself using my UK banking app ........... yep, still registered as living there, pension rises, winter fuel, no proof of life ....... all good. I can see who uses it, and it appears HMRC view it 2x a year.

My pension was frozen from day 1.

From day 1 of your claim or when they knew you were living in Thailand from 2009 ? ie; did you pension fail to grow in value since 2009 since they knew you were living overseas?  Many thanks.

It was frozen from the date I first became eligible to receive the SP. i.e. my 66th birthday in 2021. So, yes I continued to receive increases until 2021.
