Why not clamp the weels? That way they can't move their wehicles until RTP have unclamped them and  bigger fines?

The guys who run those cars in international rallies have a lot of what you call "discretionary money". 

 

It seems to me that the smarter thing for officials to do would be to bend over backwards to get them to park up and spend some of that sweaty discretionary money in their town.  And make them feel welcome so they come back next year.  And the year after.

 

Or you can nickel and dime a few hundred baht out of them and they'll either bypass the town next time or they'll just bypass Thailand altogether.

This makes no sense. Foreign number plates indicates the cars were NOT rented locally but driven over the border.

 

I guess even wealthy tourists have their issues. Low class tourists like a punch up, high quality tourists think they can park anywhere they want.

Yeah, just let them park where they want and block the narrow streets - great idea.

And to think people (rightfully) complain when we see different rules applied for rich and poor.

Hmm, if brake fluid somehow finds its way onto the car body, it will strip the paint down to bare metal or plastic in as little as 10-minutes...

They'll be gone in an hour.  That's the nature of a rally pit stop. They'd organize legitimate parking for an overnight or longer term stay.

 

Their money will spend for weeks.

The cars in the OP photo all look like GT-Rs.  Gorgeous cars.  Poor man's supercar.  But they can be modified to be true performance cars.  Not available in the US, and like hen's teeth in Thailand. I've only seen them at shows in LOS,

 

When my (BKK) company sent me on an assignment to work in KL, I shopped for a used one.  But the contract ended abruptly so I never did buy one.  Had I gotten residence there, I would have.  I'm more of a Toyota fan.  But for a GT-R, I'd cheat on Toyota.
