Do you have the proper paper work to say that you brought it into Thailand ?

Or has that law all changed now.

Some Thai banks do ask the purpose and even sometimes documentation to support your reason.  I would just say it's for investment purposes.  Last year, my friend used BBL for many transfers back to US but never had so show the funds were previously brought in.  One time he said it was to pay for family to visit and the bank wanted documentation of travel.  He subsequently used a different purpose (I don't know which) to keep it simple.

Thanks,

A few years back I used BB & Krungsri Bank to send back, they did asked reason, just said I was leaving for home.

But now are days Thai banks are getting crazy with foreigners and local alike want you to take a photo blah blah, Krungsri even wants you to come in with your passport to take that said photo.

You can also go in a SuperRich branch. They offer international money transfer as well.

Agree! SuperRich is the way I would go - you will get terrible rates from the likes of SCB (depends upon the currency you want to convert to - but when I needed to change some Yuan, SCB and Kasikorn had rates that were not exactly appealing, at least 20% below what I was given at SuperRich.

Western Union always used to be the most expensive way to transfer money

My bank charges more for bank to bank, so I've been using Western Union all along. It usually costs 300-600 baht depending on the amount. It does cost more to go to the states than from the states to here.

A few years ago, I asked SCB about it out of curiosity.

They said that not much restriction unlike old time.

They explained that U$ 50000- can now be sent out of the country(at a time)without the proof of the past transfer to Thailand if done over the bank counter.

Back in 2015, Thailand liberalized Foreign Investment by law.

Foreign investment means taking money from Thailand to somewhere else.

So I thought that changed their  practice.

Anyone who knows more about it, please comment.
