Accident Mother Killed, Son Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash with Parked Truck

A 30-year-old woman has died and her 12-year-old son is in serious condition after their motorcycle collided with the rear of a parked truck transporting a modular home in Phitsanulok province. The collision occurred on Highway 1086, in front of a noodle shop in Mueang district, Phitsanulok.

 

The victim, identified as Ms. Siwika, was riding her motorbike with her son as pillion passenger when she lost control and crashed into the back of a white Isuzu flatbed truck. The truck was one of three parked along the roadside, delivering prefabricated homes.

 

Rescue workers from the Khaophap Foundation rushed to the scene. Ms. Siwika was found unconscious with critical abdominal and head injuries, with a visibly broken left arm. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Her son sustained serious head and abdominal injuries. He was transported to Buddhachinaraj Hospital where he remains under close medical supervision. The boy has not yet been informed of his mother’s death to avoid causing further emotional trauma.

 

Family members arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Ms. Siwika’s mother collapsed in grief upon seeing her daughter’s body. Through tears, she shared that her daughter had travelled into Phitsanulok city earlier that day to visit a sick relative and was on her way home to Nong Tom Market in Phrom Phiram district, where she made a living selling goods.

 

Mr. Sumit, the 30-year-old driver of the truck, told police that he and his team had driven from Pathum Thani to deliver the modular homes. They had stopped to eat noodles at a roadside stall when the crash occurred. He said the motorcycle appeared to brush against one of his team members walking beside the road, causing Ms. Siwika to lose control and crash directly into the back of the vehicle.

 

Police at Mueang Phitsanulok Station are continuing to investigate the incident and have begun taking witness statements. Legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the findings.

 

Highway 1086, which runs between Phitsanulok and Wat Bot, has recently been expanded into a four-lane road and has been the site of several fatal incidents. Just the night before, a motorcycle crashed into a roadside coffee stall less than 1.5 km from this incident, resulting in two fatalities.

 

The body of Ms. Siwika has been released to her family for religious rites. Police continue to remind motorists and pedestrians alike to exercise caution on this increasingly dangerous stretch of road.

Just a simple reminder to Thai drivers, drive for what you can see, meaning if you can't safely stop within the distance of your sightline, then slow down. There is absolutely zero reason for running into the back of a large stationary vehicle. They also need to learn to adjust that safe driving distance based on their speed. Proper drivers training would help, but I doubt there is a Thai alive that is qualified.

Inattention is why all of these happen. Before it might have been reaching for a smoke, cd or anything else. Now it's mainly cell phones. I see so many driving with one hand and holding a cell and scrolling. It's hard enough trying to be safe here without letting your guard down for a second. Another topic shows a car that went under a truck and killed the driver.But I agree with what you said.
