Report Thai Man Treks 700 km to Break Free from Cannabis Addiction

THAILAND - In an inspiring tale of determination, "Mr Piya", a 46-year-old man from Ratchaburi, is currently walking over 700 kilometres to Chiang Mai in a bid to conquer his cannabis addiction.

 

Armed with nothing but a single set of clothes, Piya sustains himself by collecting and selling empty cans to purchase food. He finds shelter for the night in various places like temples, roadside huts, and police stations.

 

The journey isn't taken in solitude, as Mr Piya receives unwavering support from his 74-year-old mother and sister, who maintain regular contact via phone. His mission caught the attention of officials from the Narcotics Control Board, Regions 5 and 6.

 

Together with local authorities and health workers, they provided him with medical aid, tending to his foot injuries, and supplied him with pain relief, food, water, and a new mobile phone to ensure he remains in touch with his family.

 

Mr Piya openly admitted to having been hooked on multiple drugs, with cannabis being the most challenging to quit. Recognising the strain this habit has put on his family, he draws strength from their unwavering love and support, fuelled by a firm resolve to change his life for the better.

 

Now 20 days and over 400 kilometres into his quest, Mr Piya has turned adversity into motivation, aiming to overhaul his health and secure a stable job.

 

His extraordinary commitment to self-improvement has garnered admiration from officials who view his journey as a powerful testament to overcoming personal challenges.

 

Public praise has followed, applauding his resilience and determination to rebuild his life, hoping his transformation leads to employment opportunities and a fresh start.

So he changed environment, and ability to buy, alcohol, yaba & weed.  When he returns home, loses will power, and now has money, back to old habits

I used to smoke ganja when I was younger and I can tell you for certain it's a relatively easy habit to break, it's strictly psychosomatic and there are no physical repercussions when you just simply quit cold turkey.

 

So I don't know if the extent to which this guy is going to is truly necessary. However I do applaud anyone for trying to improve their lives, and habitual use of ganja is a pretty dull habit.
